1,183 artists
225 exhibitions
274 galleries, museums,
and organizations
311 articles, interviews,
and research papers
86 books, films, and
artist releases
By all accounts, 2022 was a banner year—perhaps HOLO’s most productive yet. Our third print edition, Mirror Stage: Between Computability and Its Opposite, hit shelves in June, reconciling AI hypotheticals with the mess of lived experience. Two major web dossiers dove deep into the legacy of singular digital art veteran Vera Molnar and the need for AI Anarchies. And 579 timeline entries—exhibition openings, research papers, noteworthy books and articles—were added to the HOLO Stream.

In sum, we mapped thousands of ideas across art, science, and technology this year. In 2023, we are excited to introduce new features that will allow you to draw from our archives, follow breaking developments, and discover emerging trajectories even better. Onwards!
HOLO 3 in numbers
HOLO 3
576 cities, 49 countries,
6 continents, and counting ...
Capetown, Los Angeles, São Paulo, Tokyo—each week, copies of HOLO 3 depart Berlin for new destinations to shape local conversations about AI and machine learning’s thorny philosophical questions. Mostly metropolis-bound, more remote deliveries include tropical Subang Jaya, Malaysia and subarctic Yellowknife, Canada.

Published in June and guest edited by Nora N. Khan, Mirror Stage: Between Computability and Its Opposite features contributions from fifteen luminaries including Leigh Alexander, Ingrid Burrington, Mimi Ọnụọha, and Suzanne Treister. We’re pleased it resonates worldwide.
