A classic example of the ‘sunshine-pop’ genre of rock music, Madrigal was formed by Peter Boynton (keyboards), John Swainson (bass), Don Simpson (drums) and Rick Henderson (guitars) in 1968 during their days at Willowdale Junior High School north of Toronto.
On 1 July 1970 (Canada Day), Madrigal recorded “I Believe In Sunshine” b/w “Lady” at Sound Canada Studios. By September, it started to chart nationally to become one of Canada's most successful singles of the year - still heard today on oldies radio.
Lead vocalist Peter Boynton wrote many of the tracks (“Judge By The Book” & “We Are Here“) and Rick Henderson contributed “Halelujah” & “Tell Her That”.
