Pope Francis to Mongolia: we are all ‘God’s nomads’

On Monday 4 September, Pope Francis concluded his unprecedented apostolic journey to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, where he encouraged the country’s small Catholic population in their faith. Pope Francis has often been referred to as the ‘pope of the peripheries’, and this visit reaffirms this. The Catholic Church in Mongolia is one of the Church’s smallest flocks: out of a mostly Buddhist population of 3.3 million, Mongolia has roughly 1,450 Catholics.

Pope Francis at his General Audience on 6 Sep

Pope Francis reflects on his journey to Mongolia at his General Audience on Wednesday 6 September. The General Audience took place at 9.00 in Saint Peter’s Square. In his address in Italian, the Pope focused on his recent Apostolic Journey in Mongolia, After summarizing his catechesis in various languages, the Holy Father addressed special greetings to the faithful present - including Australians present.
The General Audience concluded with the recitation of the Pater Noster and the Apostolic Blessing.

‘Towards a safe environment for everybody’: new Safeguarding Director looks to the future

Rachel Averbukh, the new Director of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne’s Safeguarding Unit, says it’s ‘a bit of a no brainer that the values of safeguarding align so beautifully with the values of the Catholic Church. [We have] such a wonderful opportunity to partner together and continue to work towards a safe environment for everybody,’ she says.
