GEN2 28 YEAR OLD FOLLOW-UP UPDATE

The Gen2 28 year old follow-up is running until the end of April, so if you have not yet taken part, it is not too late.

The follow-up appointment involves a 2.5 hour health check and a 1.5 hour vision appointment. We have lots of weekday appointments available and for those needing weekend appointments we also have:

Sunday 23rd February
Saturday 7th March

We are also taking the follow-up to New South Wales!
We are doing some vision appointments on Tuesday 18th February at Sydney Eye Hospital and have two time slots left. For those living in Sydney who have not yet taken part, we would love to see you. We have 12:20pm and 2:50pm still available. Simply hit reply to this email if you are keen!

Live in Melbourne, Victoria?
We are running 1.5 hour vision appointments in Melbourne at Victoria Parade Eye Consultants on Friday 20th March, Thursday 2nd April and Friday 3rd April. We are in the process of confirming the times - but if you live in Victoria and would like to take part, reply to this email and advise us of your preferred date.

How about London?
There is a possibility we might be running some appointments in London in May or June, so if you live in England, reply to this email and we will make sure we keep you updated as we know more!

Have you only gotten part way through your most recent questionnaire as part of this follow-up or perhaps have not got the chance to start it yet?

If so, it is not too late to get it back to us.

We recognise that a 60 minute questionnaire is a big task, but you can start and stop it at any time.

Most importantly the value of the information you provide is enormous! It not only helps us understand your health check results better, but also provides invaluable long-term data on all aspects of your health and well-being across all stages of your life each time you do it.

Congratulations to our Founding Investigator Professor John Newnham

The Raine Study’s Founding investigator, Prof John Newnham has been named as the 2020 Senior Australian of the Year on Saturday 25th January in Canberra. Prof Newnham founded the Raine Study in 1989 and continues to be involved in the Raine Study today. We are so grateful for his foresight and congratulate him on this well deserved honour.

YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR 30TH BIRTHDAY

You should have received an eventbrite invitation via email to our 30th birthday party on Friday 1st May 2020 at HBF stadium by now (if not, check your junk folder as it seems some invites have unfortunately landed in there).

The evening starts at 6:00pm (for registrations) with official proceedings commencing at 6:30pm sharp.

The second part of the evening will be a cocktail style reception and the chance to talk with our researchers about the key findings we have discovered as a result of your 30 year commitment to the Raine Study.

MEET OUR NEW SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR, PROFESSOR ANNE SMITH

Due the rapid growth in research activity and as part of ongoing succession planning, there are some changes to the scientific management of the Raine Study in 2020 and beyond.

Prof Leon Straker is stepping down as Scientific Director, after 7 years in the role. During that time he and Director, Prof Peter Eastwood have worked hard to update, revise and modernise the human and technical systems of the Raine Study and bring it into the position it is today. We thank Leon for his dedication to the Raine Study over this time.

For the first 6 months of 2020, Leon will continue to work with the Raine Study half a day per week to continue to progress some elements of our strategic plan and provide a thorough handover to our new Scientific Director, Prof Anne Smith.

It is with great pleasure we have welcomed Prof Anne Smith to the role of Scientific Director, effective immediately. Anne will be working with the Raine Study one day per week.

Anne brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role. You can read more about her on our website.
