Welcome back to another week of the Evoke newsletter! How are we feeling this week? Bright eyed and bushy tailed? If you are from the UAE (or indeed live in the UAE) you will be riding a wave of pride since The UAE's Hope mission returned its first picture of Mars. The spacecraft entered into an orbit around the red planet last week, making the UAE the first Arab nation in history to have a scientific presence at Earth's near neighbour. We've selected a piece that goes into more detail on that triumph in our 'Shaping Tomorrow' section.
This week we had back-to-back events starting off at IDEX in Abu Dhabi where we had the pleasure of moving through a 12 hall exhibition showcasing the latest in technology for the defence industry, where we connected with government departments, businesses and armed forces throughout the region. Later on in the week we attended and spoke at the KPMG UAE Female Leaders Outlook 2020 conference where talk turned to the rise of sustainability and how companies need to act accordingly and achieving a good work-life balance in the age of working from home.
Sometimes for a mid-week break, a few life sessions make the day tick along a bit faster. Check out our Comms Director, Georgie's two pence on mantras, burnout and how to start your career in the creative industry.

INTERNATIONAL DEFENCE EXHIBITION &CONFERENCE |

Kicking the week off, we attended IDEX in Abu Dhabi (International Defence Exhibition and conference in the MENA region) which showcases the latest technology across land, sea and air sectors of defence. This year there were 1100 local and international defence manufacturers and contractors which filled over 35,000 sqm of exhibition space running through the 12 exhibition halls, the concourse and the atrium – so we were pretty busy milling around! During the exhibition we witnessed daily choreographed displays on the water and on the purpose-built demonstration track. In addition, we experienced private demonstrations of company vehicles and crafts. All in all, it was illuminating and wonderful to be back at an in-person event again. |

KPMG UAE FEMALE LEADERS OUTLOOK 2021 |

As far as in-person events in a pandemic world, we couldn't have enjoyed the KPMG UAE Female Leaders Outlook 2020 more. Held at the Capital Club, our MD Leah was a keynote speaker riffing off of the UAE Female Leaders Outlook 2020 report. Themed around embracing change, the key findings of the report indicated that 66% of female leaders in the UAE have seen the digital transformation of their business accelerate during the pandemic; over 56% believe gender inequality is still an issue and that inclusion and diversity is still a mainstay on the agenda. |

Leah and the other panelists weighed in on the implications of the pandemic for ESG investment, the role of women leaders in responding to Covid-19, how shifting employee priorities impact talent management and the importance of mentorship programs for emerging female leaders. As always, it was a great session of women supporting and lifting each other up.
