Antiracist Resources to support the AAPI community

|
To Our Dear WAIC Family,
In light of last week’s violent attacks and the ongoing hate crimes against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) neighbors, your DEI Advisory Group came together to provide support, resources, and actions to help you and your camp community.
Last week was really rough. For some, it was life changing and those folks - who are our campers, staff, parents, neighbors - are looking for support and care. For many in our communities, last week’s events was a result of escalating racist attacks against the AAPI community over the course of not just this past year, but decades.
The DEI Advisory Committee was formed in part to provide resources and education on anti-bias practices to the WAIC membership. As stated in our letter of intent to the Board last year the mission of the DEI Advisory Committee is to support and advise the WAIC Board and Membership in its work towards a more just summer camp community and industry. Through actions that prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion, we hope to be able to achieve structural and organizational change, which positively impacts the experience of people of color and marginalized communities within individual camp organizations. Let’s use this opportunity as the WAIC camp community to positively impact the experiences of all who interact with our organizations.
We hope you as our fellow friends and members of WAIC join us in our everyday work against hate and violence. We hope that you find these resources, template statement, and media kit useful in your work towards dismantling racism and hate in all that you do.

To [CAMP/ORGANIZATION NAME] Family,
At Camp, we believe in creating safe spaces of true belonging, where campers, staff, and families can show up as their authentic selves to feel safe and cared for. There is no space for hate and violence in anything that we do. Therefore, in light of last week’s violent hate crime against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Atlanta, we are reminded that now is the time to act against hate and bigotry. We hope that you will join us in supporting our AAPI neighbors and families to ensure that [CAMP/ORGANIZATION NAME] remains a safe and welcoming place for all who attend.
Our mission at [CAMP/ORGANIZATION NAME] is [MISSION]. In order to live into our values and achieve our mission, we must stand up to hate. We hope that some of the resources that we included in this [POST/EMAIL/LETTER] help you and your family join us in working towards a safer, more just world.
