What's that got to do with hips + knees..?
I hear you ask..
Well, it just so happens that a school Dad + new friend is an expert in old buildings. Excellent. And he kindly came to take a look 'round the other day.
And it was fascinating..
He saw things that I just didn’t see:
Floor joists that don’t quite meet the wall
A decayed wall plate with a dropping floor joist
A joist with a chunk cut out of it, that we'd all missed.
Bracket, replace, support..
Easy fixes while we’ve got them exposed.
But a lot harder to fix if we hadn’t spotted them.
Miss them and they were sure to have gotten worse.
We are so grateful.
(thanks mate 🙏)
I’ve looked over every square inch of that house
And thought I knew it inside out.. but the expert’s eye was invaluable.
Invaluable expertise
I’ve found myself reflecting on my job as an expert hip + knee surgeon. I met 23 new patients in the week.. with all sorts of hip + knee pain.
Hip + knee surgery is sometime called Hip + knee reconstruction.
Reconstruction / conservation
My friend and I both aim to spot problems...
And to provide solutions.
All of my patients this week knew they had pain.
BUT many weren’t aware of their specific problem.
Problems that were contributing to their hip + knee pain.
It's been useful to reflect on my job, as an expert in hip + knee reconstruction
Like our new friend / expert in building conservation.
Both of us spotting problems that the lay person can't be aware of. Both of us proposing solutions..
Solutions for a lifetime..
Building or Body.
