A big thank you to all those that attended and contributed to our sold out Hidden Gems 'Ocean to Sky' evening with a special tribute to our very own Bannockburn resident Murray Jones. From the opening Karakia lead by Mason Stretch to Peter Hillary providing some insights into his family's relationship with Murray, it was a fitting tribute to a world class climber. Murray's slides, digitalised by our own Tim Hawkins, showed us Murray's love of climbing and his affection for the Nepalese people. Peter then introduced us to the Director's cut of the film which was by equal measure funny, entertaining and at times heart stopping.
We also want to acknowledge and thank Royden Thomson and Neil Harraway for the contributionsto our Silent Auction of some of Murray's climbing books and a bottle of Yeti Whisky. The enthusiasm with which members of the audience participated by bidding and donating helps our Trust continue to provide community events and future art scholarships to our young people
The images below reflect the enthusiasm of the Indian people in greeting the expedition jet boats as they traveled up the Ganges, and of Murray enjoying a cuppa on one of his climbs
