I wasn’t a summer camp kid.
I went to sleepover camp twice, and I wasn’t crazy about it: I was an introverted, self-conscious preteen who was a head taller than almost everyone my age, so being tossed into a new place with a bunch of new people for a whole week didn’t sound like much fun.
It sounded kind of like a nightmare.
So why did I want to go?
Because I would get to go horseback riding every day.
As a kid, I would’ve done almost anything to spend more time around horses… including committing to seven days of sleepovers with five strangers.
In the end, it was okay. I didn’t make lifelong besties, but it wasn’t the horror story I thought it might be. The people were fine. The horses were wonderful.
But as an introvert, I still think summer camp is a perfect setting for a horror story.
If you agree, this week’s book is for you.
