Dear friends and supporters of the international shooting sport family,

January signals the beginning of a New Year in the Gregorian Calendar, and the ISSF has started 2026 with a bang. Our team has been working hard from the first day back, participating in our first site visit for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Competition is back too, with the ISSF Grand Prix and the Asian Shotgun Championship taking place this month.

We look forward to a busy February and more events with fresh, new, finals formats.

LA28 WELCOME THE ISSF FOR FIRST OLYMPIC GAMES SITE VISIT

A delegation of six ISSF staff members met with key figures from the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, as they discussed operational matters at the Long Beach Target Shooting Hall and Whittier Narrows Clay Shooting Center venues.

ISSF Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo led a delegation which also featured ISSF Senior Staff Member for IOC and NFs Relationship, Doris Fischl; ISSF Technical Director Peter Underhill; and ISSF Event Manager Jan Ketzel.

TICKET DRAW NOW OPEN FOR LA28 OLYMPIC GAMES

Shooting sport fans now have the opportunity to get tickets for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games across 15 events, with the lottery system now open.

This will stay open until March 18 2026, with the Olympic Games taking place from 14 to 30 July 2028.

2026 ISSF RULEBOOK LAUNCHES

The new ISSF Rulebook is now in force, becoming the latest update to shooting sport regulations as of 1 January 2026.

Changes include amendments to finals formats in 10 Olympic shooting sport events, as well as to clothing specifications. Live aiming and VAR have also been introduced.

FIRST-EVER ISSF ANNUAL REPORT PUBLISHED

The 2025 ISSF Annual Report has been made public, further strengthening our commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance.

The report includes key highlights and achievements from 2025, on the field as well as institutionally. Challenges faced were also stressed, with strategic reflections on how to improve.

ISSF MARKETING GUIDE UPDATED

The ISSF Marketing Unit has updated its Marketing Guide for organisers of ISSF events.

These guidelines will ensure that the ISSF, Local Organising Committees and our stakeholders have a shared vision at all of our events.

ISSF GRAND PRIX BRINGS EARLY SEASON VICTORS IN RIFLE AND PISTOL

The ISSF Grand Prix, as has become tradition, started the 2026 season in Ruse, Slovenia, with competition taking place in 10m air rifle and 10m air pistol.

Ines Ortega Castro of Spain and Juraj Tuzinsky of Slovakia won the women's and men's 10m air pistol titles, while Republic of Korea's Kwon Eun-ji and Germany's Maximilian Ulbrich won the women's and men's 10m air rifle events.

ASIAN SHOTGUN CHAMPIONSHIP PRODUCES TRAP AND SKEET WINNERS

Ten teams stood on the podium at the 2026 Asian Shotgun Championship, which saw great success for Kazakhstan and the hosts Qatar, in Doha.

Muhammad Farrukh Nadeem became Pakistan's first Asian shooting gold medallist following victory in men's trap, while Liu Wan-Yu of Chinese Taipei won the women's trap.

Kuwait's Mohammad Al-Daihani and Adel Sadakbayeva of Kazakhstan won the men's and women's skeet finals.

STEYR SPORT BECOMES ISSF BRONZE SPONSOR

Austrian air rifle and air pistol manufacturer Steyr Sport GmbH has joined the ISSF team for 2026, becoming our latest Bronze Sponsor.

Their high-quality rifles and pistols are used by several international athletes including women's 10m air rifle world number one Wang Zifei and men's 10m air pistol Olympic champion Xie Yu.

SUSTAINABILITY IN MIND WITH CARBON LITERACY TRAINING

As an organisation with the future in mind, the ISSF, in partnership with consultancy group Sporting Giants, has held its first carbon literacy training courses.

Held over two days and organised by Sporting Giants, nine participants signed up for the programme, which concluded with certification for those who completed the course.

ISSF ACADEMY RELEASES NEW COURSE DATES FOR 2026

Following a successful 2025, the ISSF Academy has released details of its first courses for 2026.

A B-level course will be held in Finland during July and August, following on from the ongoing in-person course in India, which just concluded. Two C-level and D-level courses are also set for this year.
