The Center for Research, Health, and Social Justice is sponsoring a one-day workshop and executive coaching to help faculty at traditionally lower-resourced, small, and traditional teaching institutions re-imagine their careers and career goals in the context of the academy on June 20, 8:30 am to 4 pm at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock. For thousands of years, the academy has faced and survived many crises — war, natural disasters, economic instability and uncertainty, politics, and leadership destabilization. Unpredictable times can cause us to wait to see what cards unstable environments will deal us OR prompt us to take control of our careers and strategically chart our own paths. The goals of this one-day workshop, Re-Imagining Academic Life: Tools for Survivorship and Thriving, are to: Help faculty members reflect on what the challenges are and their impact. Increase awareness of opportunities to advance research, teaching, service, and clinical and community practice in a changing and uncertain environment. Increase skills to think like an entrepreneur in the context of fulfilling the vision and mission of the academy. Build faculty member capacity to control what is in the domain of the faculty members. Motivate faculty to transform career goals in place and bring solutions to the environment rather than wait for systems to chart their career path.

Audience: Faculty member of all ranks and institutions, including faculty from small institutions and institutions that have a focus on teaching. The workshop will focus primarily on faculty who are in the biomedical, social, behavioral, and public health sciences. Benefits: Faculty who attend the workshop in person will qualify for executive coaching sessions to help them revise their career plan within 6-months. Outcomes: The one-day workshop combined with executive coaching will help faculty members at smaller institutions revise their careers paths and chart a course that will allow to them to thrive in place during uncertain times. |

Meet our Summer Research Participants |
Arkansas INBRE’s paid summer research fellowships are available for undergraduate students who are rising juniors or seniors. Selected students will work on a project relevant to human health led by a faculty member at either the University of Arkansas, or the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. We offer two 9-week summer research programs tailored to students with STEM majors (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics, and related disciplines) who are considering careers in biomedical research. Bailee Brinkley Rising Junior, Arkansas Tech University Researching at UAMS
Major: Biochemistry
What I am researching this summer: I am working under Dr. Craig Forrest with his research in Gammaherpesvirus where I am studying the viral interactions within the host.
Plans after graduation: After college, I plan on pursuing a MD/PhD program, preferably at UAMS.
Outside of the lab/classroom: I love doing outdoor activities like going on walks, playing a fun sport, or hiking. I also enjoy reading books, shopping, working out and trying new foods. |

Researching at UAMS
Major(s): Neuroscience and Dance
What I am researching this summer: I’m researching at UAMS this summer under Dr. Linda Larson-Prior, where I will be using EEG and cognitive testing at the ACNC to measure how body composition, diet, and exercise affect brain function and activity in children.
Plans after graduation: I plan to attend graduate school in the future and further my education in neuroscience (and hopefully bridge its connections with dance and movement).
Outside of the lab/classroom: I am a ballet dancer, and I love to write poetry, play guitar, and go on hikes.

IDeA National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics Voucher The IDeA National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics administers a reviewed, merit-based Voucher Program for NIH-funded investigators and other academic investigators from laboratories across the United States to access the National Resource for fully subsidized services. The goal of the voucher program is to provide pilot scale data to investigators that will create new hypotheses, support publications, and support on-going research studies within the mission of NIGMS. This voucher program is designed to support a 10-plex Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) or a 40-sample data independent acquisition (DIA) discovery proteomics experiment.
NIH-funded investigators and others from academic labs performing research within the mission areas of NIGMS from across the US. Limited to one submission per PI per due date and one awarded voucher per lab per year. Vouchers will be accepted, reviewed, and awarded three times per year. Next deadline is June 15, 11:59 pm ET.

NIH Workshop on Prenatal Dietary Supplements: Evidence Gaps and Research Needs, June 30-July 1, NIH Campus, Bethesda, MD, and Online. Event aims to: Review the state of the science on prenatal dietary supplements • Determine whether nutrient levels in current formulations support maternal and infant health • Provide recommendations for further research • Discuss steps toward scientific consensus on appropriate nutrient ranges in prenatal supplements marketed in the US. The intended audience includes researchers, clinicians, policy makers, industry, public health professionals, and others interested in prenatal nutrition and supplement research. Register by June 14. Society for Neuroscience Trainee Professional Development Award (TPDA) recognizes undergrad and grad students and post bac and postdocs who demonstrate scientific merit and excellence in research. TPDA recipients receive a travel stipend to offset the costs of attending Neuroscience 2025 ($1,000 for trainees in the US, Canada, or Mexico or $2,500 for trainees based in other countries), as well as a complimentary registration. All in-person recipients are required to present their abstract during a special TPDA poster session Sat, Nov 15 and attend two professional development workshops during the meeting. AAAS Mentor Awards. The two categories of the AAAS Mentor Awards (Lifetime Mentor Award and Mentor Award) both recognize an individual who has mentored and guided significant numbers of students from underrepresented groups to the completion of doctoral studies or who has impacted the climate of a department, college, or institution to significantly increase the diversity of students pursuing and completing doctoral studies. West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) R03/R21 Grant Writing Groups. WVCTSI is offering an intensive grant writing program for clinical and translational investigators developing R03/R21 applications for submission to the NIH. The R03 writing group program is structured as a facilitated group writing process which features a series of 2 hour “works-in-progress” sessions prior to an upcoming NIH submission deadline.
