On every other Tuesday from 9am-12pm the Haven will have a representative from Cricket Wireless at a table out front to help people sign up for free cell phone service, provide info and answer questions.
This service is through the Federal Affordable Connectivity program, and the eligibility is similar to the phone program the Haven was working with before. The company – Cricket – is different though, and because Cricket uses the ATT network (rather than T Mobile) so service will be better.
You can speed up the process of getting a phone by applying online ahead of time at
acpbenefit.org. If you meet
the income eligibility you'll get a verification code to give to Cricket. You can also just show up at the Haven and talk to the Cricket rep.
If you already have a phone through the previous Lifeline program, but are not able to use it because of service issues, you should be able to switch to Cricket.
