Gordon supporters — are we ready?
It’s time to pack away the beach umbrella, wash the pillow in Dencorub, iron the tartan, and warm up the vocal cords… “A Gordon for Me!” I’ve got a strong feeling this is going to be another cracking year of Highland rugby.
This weekend, we kick off the 2026 season with Grade and Women’s XV at Eric Tweedale Stadium, and Colts at Granville Park No.1. After a disappointing 2025, there’s a real sense of renewal across the club, with plenty of new faces both on and off the field. We’re aiming for a strong showing right across all grades.
I’m particularly excited about our Women’s XV. After sweeping all the 7s tournaments this year, we’ve got an abundance of talent , especially in the backs and we’ll be a real force if we can match it with the bigger sides like Two Blues this weekend, who alongside Manly look early favourites for 2026.
Our Colts are shaping up well. Presenting the First XV jerseys at the recent season launch, I was struck by the size and presence of the forward pack. Combined with a strong pre-season, this young group looks ready to make an impact.
First Grade brings a great mix of experience and fresh talent. With some real speed and skill in the backs, we should see an exciting brand of rugby this season. If we can keep injuries to a minimum, I’m confident we’ll be highly competitive across all four Grade teams.
Last Thursday’s season launch at Depot Brewery in Artarmon was a fantastic success, with over 300 players, supporters, and coaches in attendance. If that turnout is anything to go by, the culture and spirit of this club are in great shape for the season ahead.
Please make sure you get your membership and support the club. It’s not about how many games you attend; it’s about backing the club that has given so many of us enjoyment, friendships, and a real sense of belonging. I particularly encourage our past players to get behind the club and show that support.
This Friday, we’ll host our sponsors at the Greengate Hotel — a key part of building a strong and successful season. Our sponsors are the backbone of our rugby program, and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.
Let’s get behind our club and turn up in numbers and make some noise. Wishing all teams every success this season. Play with plenty of grit, a bit of mongrel, and the true spirit of the Highlander.
