New Safety Training

All existing members of Scouting have to do the new safety Training before 14th July

New members have to do it within 30 days of joining.

Network Lead Vacancy

As County Network Lead, you'll play a key role in supporting, promoting, and developing Scout Network (ages 18–25) across the County. You’ll work closely with local volunteers and the County Team to champion the voices of young adults and create opportunities for personal growth, adventure, and community impact.

Youth Lead Vacancy

The role is for people between 18 to 25 years old. Youth Leads are volunteers who are responsible for leading youth shaped scouting in our local area. They enable volunteers to embed the ideas and decisions of young people into local scouting.

The closing date for applications or nominations is 29th June 2025.

Interviews will be held on the 13th July.

Find out about our qualifications on 8th July. We offer a fantastic range of BTEC qualifications to suit all ages and abilities. Also ILM Level 3 and City & Guilds Professional recognition awards in Leadership and Management.

Scout Expedition Challenge

An overnight expedition to walk from Ben Rhydding to the Cow and Calf Rocks to climb, then onward to Sconce.

After camping, and cooking, at Sconce, walk to Reva for some water activities.

12th - 13th July

Beaver & Parent Bell Boating

County Beaver & Parent Bell Boating day where those Beavers attending will qualify for a Time on the Water badge and towards a Nautical Skills (Stage One) badge.

County Summer Social

The County Summer Social is returning on 17th July at Bradley Wood.

There will be a plenary with updates from the County, then section meetings before some food.

Trustee Nominations

We are currently running an open application process for one Trustee position that is up for election this year.

If you are interested in standing for election, please complete the application form and submit it by 30th June 2025.

Squirrel's Big Day Out

Join the Squirrel Scouts Big Day Out at Whistlestop Valley! Saturday 11th October £15

Calling all West Yorkshire Squirrel Scouts! Get ready for an action-packed adventure at Whistlestop Valley in Huddersfield. Our Big Day Out includes exciting go-karting, hands-on educational activities, and a ride on the scenic heritage railway. After a fun-filled day exploring the site and enjoying outdoor games, we’ll wind down with a campfire, games, and a tasty BBQ.

This county initiative continues to run through to the end of 2025. Over 500 badges have already been awarded but groups still have time to complete and claim their award.

To gain the badge, members should take part in any 4 activities from the themed areas.

Calling all Kings and Queens Scouts...

Are you a King's or Queen's Scout? If so, you could be taking centre stage at Windsor Castle in 2026 as part of the annual Day of Celebration and Achievement!

If you are aged 18-26 you can apply to be part of the Team of Ten, either in the Colour Party or the Service Team. If you are aged 18 or over you can apply to be a Section Leader.

Note that applications will close on Friday 1st August 2025.

2025 – County Wet Day.

The Canoe and Kayak team have been working hard to run a wet day this year in

September.

However, due to the current requirements of Wakefield council we will not be able to

run the event this year.

Hopefully we will be able to meet the requirements and be able to return next year.

We did consider other venues, but there are none that we are aware of with the

same facilities as Pugneys Country Park – if you are aware of anywhere please let

us know by emailing activities@wyscouts.org.uk

In the meantime, we are hoping to have some Wednesday night sessions on during

late July and August at Leeds Road, Huddersfield.
