Bookings open for new reading shed

The first of the fantastic ideas children came forward with in our Dragons' Den competition before Christmas has come to fruition.
Each site was allocated £2,000 by the Friends of Bothal charity and trustees were looking for ideas/bids from children for projects that help all pupils on the site, can keep going for a long time and are something special that school can't usually pay for.

One of the two winning projects for Central Lower was a reading shed in the yard and this week it had its official launch.

We’re sure it will be a hugely popular addition to our outdoor facilities.

Park life!

Reception enjoyed a wonderful trip to the park where we observed spring flowers, visited the Jack Charlton statue and explored the local mining memorial. We finished the visit with playtime in the park. Back in school, Mrs Cook kindly shared her grandad’s Eccles Protector Lamp from his time working in the mines, helping us to extend our learning further. We were fascinated to learn more about Ashington’s rich history!

Teacher Training Day

A reminder to parents that Central Academy has a Teacher Training Day on Friday May 22 - in line with WISE Academies term dates.

May the attendance force be with you!

This half term, we’re launching a fun Star Wars-themed attendance challenge to encourage every child to be in school every day from next Tuesday. Children will collect a daily stamp for each day they attend school. Every child with a full card will receive a prize and be entered into a special draw to win a prize that is truly out of this world! Every day counts – you have to be in it to win it! Let’s work together to build strong attendance habits this term.

Pop art

4AK have been studying pop art this term and have learnt all about Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

The children have drawn some amazing pieces of artwork over the last few weeks but their final piece was completed using a printing technique.

Learning about the Pitmen Painters

Still on the art theme and following their recent trip to Woodhorn, Year 2 have been further exploring the work of the Pitmen Painters. This time they have been identifying the different colours used and recreating through colour mixing.
Eight members of the all-girl Dodgeball team celebrate qualifying for the next round.

Planting a seed...

Year 1 have been learning about what plants need to grow and have a friendly competition going to see whether the children's or the teacher's will grow fastest.
Tackling typos together

KS1 have been demonstrating their phonics and handwriting skills and helping each other out by spotting any mistakes and fixing them together. Great teamwork and encouragement!
Playground games afterschool club

Year 2 playground games afterschool club has been a huge success so far and very popular with the children. They have enjoyed learning a number of traditional playground games, made even better by the arrival of warmer weather.

Core value - integrity

This week’s core value is integrity and we have photos here of class 4AK delivering an assembly about integrity and Father Sam discussing integrity in the community.
