Help shape the future of WIAA - Workshops on December 4

Everything flows. And so does WIAA.

For over 15 years, WIAA has served the information architecture community through events like World IA Day, resources, and connections across the globe. But communities evolve, and it's time to think about what comes next.

We're hosting three 90-minute workshops on December 4th where you can share your ideas about the future of WIAA programming and initiatives. Whether you've been involved with WIAA for years or are just getting to know our community, your perspective matters. These workshops are designed to hear from you about what would make WIAA more valuable, more accessible, and more relevant to your work and interests.

Website update: Building for what comes next

Everything flows, and that includes our website. We're migrating from Drupal to GitBook with a focus on creating a sustainable structure that will serve our community better over time. We're being intentional about what we preserve, how we organize the site, and how people can find content on the site.

We've gathered feedback from many of you and are actively working through it. The new site is live and evolving. Some content has made the journey, some is still in transition, and we're learning what matters most to preserve and improve.

Earlier this year at a World IA Cafe talk, Evgeni Minchev explores the evolving symbolism of the colour pink across different cultures and time periods, using historical and contemporary examples to trace its shifting meanings. From masculinity to femininity, rebellion to conformity, pink has worn many faces—each shaped by cultural intent. At its core, the discussion delves into how intention influences interpretation, reminding us that meaning is rarely fixed, but intended.

A Big Think. A Small Start: Introducing a Set of Unification Protocols Looking for User Interfaces

Language is (finally) taking center stage in enterprise information management, and despite, or maybe because of, the near ubiquitous presence of AI in general and Large Language Models in particular, organizations are waking up to the need for foundational protocols they can count on.

Join us on December 4 to hear John O'Gorman share the value of Information Universals, and how they contribute stability to common offerings from business glossaries, knowledge graphs, data catalogs, and document tagging and retrieval.
