Mal Hewitt retires after 33 years as Artistic Director

Mal Hewitt OAM gives his retirement speech in 2025, after thirty three extraordinary years of leadership as Artistic Director of Celebration Sing Out!

34 years of sharing the healing power of music

Celebration Sing Out! is a 34-year Sydney music tradition that brings together massed choirs, orchestra and community performers in a spectacular annual concert supporting Music Therapy at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Proudly supported by the City of Sydney, our event raises over $40,000 each year .

It's for a profoundly good cause

We are raising funds so that kids who are very sick in the Children's Hospital at Westmead can have music therapy that will bring them joy and healing during what can be the most difficult of times.

Connect with great music, and friends old and new!

Sopranos • Altos • Tenors • Basses - All Welcome

Singers from across Sydney, regional NSW and beyond are warmly invited to join Celebration Sing Out! 2026 at the magnificent Sydney Town Hall.

Whether you currently sing in a choir, sang years ago, or simply miss the joy of singing great music with great people — this is your invitation to get involved. No audition necessary, just bring your love of singing!

You don't need to be a member of a choir!

If you're a parent or teacher who would like to sing alongside your high school child or student, or simply someone who wants to share a great community experience, we'd love to have you join us.

We will connect you with other singers in your area if you want a practice buddy or two!

Why Singing Matters

Singing together is uplifting, energising and deeply human.

Research continues to show that group singing can reduce stress, improve wellbeing, strengthen social connection and build confidence. Many singers describe choir participation as one of the highlights of their year.

Celebration Sing Out! is more than a concert.

It is community.
It is friendship.
It is joy.
It is purpose.

Reconnect with Old Friends & Great Music

Former school music campers, choir members, instrumentalists and music teachers are especially invited to reconnect through the joy of music-making once again.

Many adult singers return each year to sing alongside former students, colleagues and lifelong friends while reliving the excitement of great performances in Sydney Town Hall.

Whether your musical journey began in a school choir, music camp, church choir or community ensemble — Celebration Sing Out! welcomes you home.
