Summer is just around the corner and your FFPD crew has been busy. From responding to nearly 80 calls last month to preparing for the June ballot — read on for your May community update. Thank you for being part of the FFPD family.

Meet Nathan — Captain

Nathan — Captain, FFPD

Nathan grew up right here in the San Lorenzo Valley, met his wife Renee here, and when it came time to buy a home they deliberately searched within FFPD boundaries — because this community is that important to them. They now live in the Bigfoot Hill neighborhood with their dog and six chickens.

Nathan came up through the ranks as an Engineer and was recently promoted to Captain alongside Renee, who was promoted at the same time. A Union Carpenter by trade, he helped build Levi Stadium and the Google Headquarters. He brings that same precision and problem-solving to everything he does at FFPD, including his love of rope rescues.

During the CZU Fire of 2020, Nathan was here defending our community while many of us evacuated — helping put out spot fires from Empire Grade to El Solyo. He is one of the many quiet heroes who made sure we had homes to come back to.

Response Stats and Community Impact

By the Numbers — April 2026

Your FFPD team responded to 79 calls in April. Here is a snapshot:

Of those 79 calls, 39 were rescue and emergency medical responses — nearly half of everything your crew handled last month. FFPD also provided mutual aid to Cal Fire 3 times in April. When neighbors need help, we show up.

Training and Preparedness

Wildland Training — Fire Season Ready

As fire season approaches, your FFPD crew has been putting in serious work on wildland firefighting techniques — handline construction, terrain navigation, and crew coordination in dry grass and brush conditions just like those found throughout our Santa Cruz Mountains community.

This is the training that makes the difference between a contained incident and a neighborhood lost. FFPD is ready.

Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast — May 11th

The Felton Volunteer Fire Fighters crew ready to serve at the annual Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast

The Felton Volunteer Fire Fighters showed up in a big way for Mother's Day — aprons on, griddles hot, and smiles ready. The annual pancake breakfast brought the community together right here at the station for a morning of good food and great company.

Thank you to everyone who came out and to our incredible crew and auxiliary for making it happen. This is what FFPD is all about.

Is Your Generator Ready for Fire Season?

Fire season is approaching and power outages can happen quickly. A generator is only useful if it is ready when you need it. Here is how to make sure yours is:

• Test your generator now — before you need it, not during an emergency
• Store fuel safely — keep it away from your home in an approved container
• Check your fuel level — don't wait until a red flag warning to fill up
• Know your load — understand what your generator can and cannot power
