Can you believe we are now half way through this year! Its just flown by and once again I send you greeting from Naples in Florida.
Our vacation this year has been a very hot one so far with the temperatures hitting the mid 90’s, but now that June has arrived so have the storms albeit just a few gentle ones in the afternoon. Well I’m not really complaining as the sun still pops out once it’s over.
Since our fabulous pantomime in January which I hope you all got to see, we carried on with our March play, Dead Ringer and I have to congratulate all the cast and crew for a wonderful cleaver and funny play, thanks to our new Director for this play Ken Redfern, It’s been a pleasure having Ken with us and he has agreed to do one of our next seasons plays.
May brought us an old favourite TV satire Dads Army with a large cast of over 20. Sadly, I didn’t get to see this being on holiday, but have heard great reports on how good the characterisation was, so my thanks to director Gerard Lennox for giving us such great memories. The scenery props costumes as always makeup and wigs for this show were fantastic together with the great sound and lighting from our tech crew.
Now we await the juniors production of Honk Jr which is one of my all time favourite shows. I have always wanted to direct this but never had the opportunity, but I know it is in safe hands with Chloe Kayes and will be a great success.
Also coming up is the youth production of Footloose in July. I know the all the young people have been working really hard on this and I look forward to seeing it on my return.
As the summer moves forward after Footloose, renovation work is due to begin in the Carver. We are hoping to install some form of Air Conditioning. This is a very difficult task as the main auditorium is not a brick-built structure so weight bearing is a huge problem. Here’s hoping all goes well and we overcome any problems that may arise. We are also looking into to repainting various areas if time allows before we reopen in the autumn.
We have therefore, postponed our first play of the season (Sept) in order to get this work done. Our first production of the season will be in Nov and is 3 one act plays each night. All great comedies and very entertaining.
All that’s left for me now is to say, Stay safe, stay well ,and see you all soon.
