Dear Friends,
In a world going crazy, how about a couple updates from my studio?
AI may still be the topic of the moment, but there's increasing evidence that it's an unsustainable bubble. This summer I wrote the essay Post AI on why AI is not the final technology, and why artists need to consider what will come next. I followed this with a Post AI Manifesto which distills the essay into key points.
That's not to say I've stopped working with AI. I recently started a new project considering what it might mean if AI were capable of feeling. My essay Suffering explores this question and lays the groundwork for work to come. But the question isn't only about possible machine emotion – it's about how we treat those who we think of as "other."
There's more to come. But first I need to pack up the French life I've been living for the past six months and head back to New York. It's been an amazing experience. But for now, a huge thank you to everyone I had the pleasure to spend time with, and to all the new friends and acquaintances made. I look forward to returning soon.
Warmly,
David,
