Since October, waiting lists in Sheffield have fallen by over 2,000, thanks to the hard work of our dedicated NHS staff and the Department of Health and Social Care.

As part of the Further Faster programme, doctors have been sent to areas where people need it the most to halve waiting times, including Sheffield Central.

I met Wes Streeting yesterday to discuss the plans and how I can work with him and his staff to achieve my priorities for Sheffield Central.

I have been fortunate enough to give legal advice to many members of the Sheffield community. Facing court is a daunting and worrying experience and no one should face it without support.

Organisations like Support Through Court offer aid to people going through court without representation. They offer an integral service to vulnerable people and are a stalwart of our charity sector. It was a pleasure to visit them at their Sheffield branch

Following our meeting with the RMG management company, we are looking forward to seeing the actions that they have promised.

Regular meetings with residents and more transparency about charges is a top priority. The Labour Leaseholder Working Group will continue to ensure that leaseholder voices are heard.

I’ve received countless messages of support, with people stopping me in the street and in the corridors of the Houses of Parliament to express their solidarity.

It was heartening and emotional to stand with my colleagues for this photograph knowing that they are standing with me.

It was great to join young people from the  Sheffield Community Youth Services and the Youth Work Unit to share my journey and experience so far in politics.

There were some great questions about the practicalities of being an MP as well as what can be done to support more people from working class backgrounds to get involved.

Gambling harms people in countless ways. Mentally, physically, financially…and any level of exposure can make people vulnerable to harm.

So it was my pleasure to speak at the launch of 

Gambling with Lives's national provider of gambling harm prevention, Chapter One.

I hosted a productive discussion to discuss Women’s Rights in the Middle East and North Africa Region. 

Elected as chair of Moroccan National Human Rights Council, Amina Bouayach is a strong advocate for international cooperation on human rights.

Swifts pair for life and return to the same sites across the UK every year to lay and incubate their eggs. They need buildings to do this and as old buildings are renovated, nesting sites are disappearing.

They are now on the UK's Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern.

UK buildings are fundamental to the survival of swifts. Adding Swift Bricks to buildings is a simple way of giving them a home.

I had a productive meeting with Matthew Pennycook to discuss the implementation of Swift Bricks in the UK.

Mental health is one of my priorities. The Centre for Mental Health have launched a report that scrutinises our current support for mental health and addresses how we can improve it.

Access to local, community-based support is vital to tackling the mental health crisis, and their report demonstrates how this can work.

St Vincent’s Furniture Project have been delivering a mission that’s been helping disadvantaged people since 1987.

Repurposing furniture to give it a second life, with a commitment to community, welfare and fairness. It was lovely to meet them all.

I listened to stories about the extra costs people living with disabilities have at the Scope cost of living drop in. These stories are not new to me. I have close relatives in receipt of PIP and they, like many others are worried about how the proposed welfare changes will affect them.

While I approve of the initiatives to support people who want to get back into work, it must be done with fairness and we must recognise that there are people who are physically and mentally unable to return to work. They should not be demonised or penalised.

We need to fix our welfare system, but we can’t leave anyone behind or make people poorer as a result.

The Home Educating community is growing, diverse and fiercely passionate about their children’s education.

I have tabled a number of amendments to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill in respect of home education, particularly adding the clarification of the definition of ‘suitable education’ 

We should not stigmatise home education to cover up for failings in child protection laws and systems.

Since leaving the EU, many sectors have faced numerous challenges, including our universities. The UK was a popular destination for students, but there was a 40% drop nationally in 2021 than in 2020 as a result if Brexit. 

We must strengthen our ties with the EU to restore growth and mutual cooperation. One way of doing this is through the Youth Mobility Scheme, which will support students and young people to work and study across in the UK and across the EU

In the Westminster Hall Debate on Nutrition, members raised important questions about how we are addressing famine across the world.

The University of Sheffield is home to the world-leading Institute for Sustainable Food, which is pioneering food solutions to areas affected by poverty and climate change.

The Desert Garden is just one project that offers ways to grow nutritious food in these areas.

I asked the Minister how we would champion and support this innovative research.
