NOTE: If this is your first Breadness Buzz, or if you've been part of our tribe but missed earlier posts, visit the Breadness Buzz Archive here and catch up on this content written especially for you (by me!). It's a great way to meet like-minded artisan sourdough aficionados, like yourself, and be part of this journey I started back in 2016. And now for this week's Buzz...

Bring an explosion of flavors to your Independence Day festivities!

Red Devil Fireworks might not be legal in LA anymore (who remembers when they were legal and there were popup stands all over the city?) but at Random Acts of Breadness, we've got FLOURWORKS! That's right... Flourworks: tasty explosions of flava in every bite (or sip).

Grilling meats and/or veggies? Try using some of our organic Tuscan Herb-Infused Olive Oil from Ojai in your marinade or basting. Or liven things up a bit with sweet and spicy Rockin' Jalapeno or Raspberry Habanero jams from Laura Ann in Eagle Rock. On the savory side, there's lots you can do with our quartet of Tapenades from Beyond the Olive in Pasadena.

Salads are always welcome this time of year. Try a custom vinaigrette made with one of our 7 Extra Virgin Olive Oils and one of 9 Balsamic Vinegars

Last but never least is our Breadness Country Loaf along with your choice of butter from Raw Farm (or Nutiva's organic vegan butter spread). And not to forget about breakfast, our organic Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan sourdough makes a delightful French Toast, or add some NuttZo Keto Crunch and Laura Ann's Lo-Fi jam for a heavenly (and healthy) treat.

Order early for pickup by Sunday...

Breadness is an artisan process sourdough bread. Part of the aesthetic of that process is that no two loaves will ever be alike. And even no two batches turn out the same. The variables of time, temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, the season of the harvest of the flours we use, all have their hand in the final product. I've observed that our loaves come out of the oven either Punky, Puffy, or somewhere in between. Punky loaves have attitude; their ears pop off the top of the loaf with reckless abandon. This makes them a bit taller but narrower. They look a bit smaller than Puffy loaves, but they weigh the same. Punky loaves, being a bit more dense than Puffy loaves, generally do well with our Varia slicer.

Puffy loaves are more reserved, more polite, not wanting to make a scene. They are wider and usually a bit shorter than Punky loaves. The ears from the scoring stay close to the loaf. Puffy loaves have more air inside and therefore, are fluffier. For that reason, they may not fare well with our Varia slicer, so we slice them on our manual slicers in the back.

Here's a Punky Petite Loaf! That's quite some design, there... If you have a preference, you can always request a loaf that is more Punky or Puffy, and if we have them available, we'll be glad to accommodate!

From the Montrose Farmer's Market — Benzler Organic Raisins!

Kathy, one of our Breadness customers, introduced us to the organic raisins from Benzler Farms in Fresno, who have a stand at the Montrose Farmer's Market every Sunday. We've been using organic raisins from a large supplier from the beginning, but like all ingredients, if we can find fresher, tastier, and more local than what we've been using, I'm always keen to taste the difference and see if we can take things to the next level. The Benzler raisins I tasted were indeed fresher and tastier, so I purchased 10 pounds to start. This week's Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan sourdough loaves feature the new raisins. Come for a sample this weekend and see if you can taste the difference!
