The AI News-Fatigue
When picking the apps to feature in this newsletter, I had a hard time finding tools and apps outside the AI realm - that will change when AI is a commodity built into any product, and we can focus on how these tools implement AI differently and better. Currently, these first versions of AI features could be more impressive. I may suffer a bit from AI fatigue. But, the newest announcements by OpenAI still made me amazed.
My favorite content piece in this newsletter is about the changes that might come to Google Search and how they impact your website.
In the Fresh van Root section, you can meet the team supporting me in finishing this newsletter every two weeks.
Stay fresh, Rolf

Websites can very soon lose up to 25% of traffic. Why? Google is experimenting with extending its search snippet feature to get more space on its results page and summarizing multiple pages simultaneously. Marketers must prepare for a world in which search-engine-optimized content no longer brings the same results.

LinkedIn says it rewards knowledge sharing, but another post type is quite successful on the platform in terms of reach: personal oversharing. Did you notice people posting about life lessons made on vacation or while looking after their kids? LinkedIn got weird, and being a network for professionals does no longer mean you cannot use it like Facebook.

Regarding content creation, you can roughly distinguish two types: Informational generalistic content or insightful original, personable content. Especially on social media, we value frequency over originality. But the latter can have more impact and stick with your audience. Read the "The Idea Impact Matrix" to internalize the winning method.

From sketching storyboards to rendering designs, generative AI impacts all tasks, at least to some degree. So much lengthy content is published on that topic, and this newsletter called After Design ( recent issue) dissects and summarizes those articles.

Instantly applicable trick

Paste without formatting and save clicks each day
When you copy text between documents, it often mixes up the formatting. This shortcut can save you a few clicks multiple times a week. You can try it out now: First, copy this paragraph into whatever writing app you have open the way you always do. Then, do it again using the shortcut above. Enjoy!

OpenAIs' Vision AI allows you to upload a picture to ChatGPT and have AI analyze it. Think of any screenshot, smartphone picture, or napkin sketch - upload it to OpenAI and instantly get a written description of the content on the image. But it goes beyond that - you could ask ChatGPT to create a web page for you that is shown in a specific image.

The ugly first draft of your next website wireframe can be done via a prompt. WireGen is a Figma template that you can use to describe your web- or mobile app, and it generates the wireframe for you. Prototyping products is changing completely thanks to AI. ( Example)

About this newsletter Behind the scenes
Is this newsletter sent from one person or a team? It's complicated! While I (Rolf) select the content and apps, write the newsletter, and ultimately click on send, I have, of course, people helping me. First, Lena proofreads, gives feedback, and creates the web version in WordPress. Then there is Lukas, who is assisting with the design and graphics.
In the past, I mixed writing this newsletter from the "I" and "We" perspective. Going forward, I will stick to "I" - and when not, you know who the "We" is referring to.
ICYMI: This newsletter got renamed and re-positioned. During that process, with the help of my team, I switched from Mailchimp to EmailOctopus. If you are interested in the Why and How of that migration, you can check my notes on that. How do you like the recent changes to this newsletter or this issue, specifically - all feedback is welcome. Hit reply!
