Dear <<First Name>>,
The Avenue Road Safety Coalition (ARSC) received recognition this week from the Member of the Provincial Parliament, University - Rosedale, Jessica Bell, for our leadership work to improve road safety.
Over the past seven years <<Organization>> has supported the ARSC in its advocacy to redesign the six-lane Avenue Road expressway between St Clair and Bloor Street West to create a safer, inclusive corridor that considers pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The ARSC is pleased to share this recognition of our collected efforts and to thank everyone at <<Organization>> for their support.
The City’s Avenue Road study confirmed that the current configuration of Avenue Road encourages speeding through our densely populated neighbourhood and that the sidewalks do not meet minimum safety or accessibility standards. City Transportation Services staff unveiled redesign options for Avenue Road, signaling progress in addressing these long-standing safety concerns.
To learn more about these, you can visit the
ARSC website. If you have quesions or commets please email us
info@avenueroadsafetycoalition.caThe ARSC is now on the verge of achieving its objective to make Avenue Road accessible to all. We are awaiting the final report on the Avenue Road Study, which will provide recommendations for near-term interventions.
We understand that recommendations may be presented at the March 27th Infrastructure and Environmental Committee (IEC) meeting and then to the City Council for a final decision. We will be asking <<Organization>> to once again join with the Coalition to advocate at the City’s Infrastructure and Environment Committee. Together we will press for tangible changes to make Avenue Road a more people-friendly, climate-friendly, and inclusive transportation corridor that will be safe for everyone, including wheelers, walkers and drivers.
Please mark March 27th on your calendar and stay tuned.Pictured collecting the Award.
