It is way too cold here. Last week we had such mild temperatures I was doing errands wearing sneakers and sweatshirts with my regular clothes. This week it's so cold I'm forcing myself to wear winter boots (which I hate) and a puffy winter jacket (which I hate even more), if I'm forced to leave the house at all.
|
I'm not sure if you can see in the picture but we're expecting in the minus 50's with the wind chill overnight the next few nights. My husband had to go back to work Thursday evening in this mess because the machinery he looks after for his job doesn't like to work properly when it gets cold. Send him all your warm thoughts
|
It's not so bad for most of us in the house. The buses get cancelled when it gets too cold, and I can usually avoid leaving the house unless absolutely necessary (thanks to my obsessive need to keep the pantry full—we might be eating macaroni and oatmeal, but we'll still be eating). Where the problem comes in is when my husband still has to work (and he does a lot of his work outside so... yikes) and the dogs still need to go outside.
The dogs haven't caught on that this is the kind of weather where you run out and do your business in a hurry.
Similar to how he turns in approximately 19 circles before flopping onto his bed, Rocky needs to sniff the entire yard before doing his business in one of his three favourite spots just like he always does. Right now, though, he only makes one round of sniffing the yard before his paws get cold and he has to come back in. It takes three trips outside before he has to go so badly he just heads to one of his favourites and squats immediately.
Mina loves snow so much that she would spend all day tippy toeing outside if I let her, and she'll avoid going to the bathroom out there in favour of shoving her head into piles of snow instead. Oh, and she won't walk toward the door unless I'm holding it open. It's turned getting her inside into the worst game of Red Light, Green Light you can imagine.
Another terrible thing about winter is my office is in my basement. The heating ducts are few and far between down here, so my office is normally on the cold side. Great for the summer months, not so great when we turns into and Arctic-style frozen tundra. Do you have any idea how hard it is to type with half-frozen fingers? I do more backspacing due to my frigid fingers hitting the wrong key than actual typing. Which of course makes everything take longer.
So yeah, winter sucks and I hate it.

I know, I know. I've been telling you about Carlisle Creek for so long that you're not sure you even want to read it anymore. But listen, after the changes I've made, you're going to love it. And don't worry, Harold is the same old, loveable, grump of a cat he's been the entire time. After all, why would I change perfection?
In all seriousness, I'm finalizing edits and the cover so you can expect to see it in the next few months. As always, keep your eyes here or on my social media for more information as days go by.

How do you feel about bird puns? |
Psst! This is a top secret hint about my upcoming collaboration with a group of other romcom authors. I can't say too much about it yet, but know this: You are going to LOVE my main characters. One is a happy-go-lucky, retired MMA champ with a golden retriever personality, a bordering-on-disturbing obsession with rubber ducks, and a habit of being shirtless more often than not, and the other is a moderately cranky, happily single, middle-aged restauranteur with a love of true-crime podcasts, a hobby of making tiny, creepy fairy houses out of thrifted teapots, and a large family who enjoys meddling in her love life from a distance. And bird puns abound. So many bird puns.

Doctor No No: A Billionaire Forbidden Romance
|
Natalia Bates is the only daughter of a rich family. Unlike her brothers who were raised with care, she’s always felt like she doesn’t belong with her family. She still has nightmares from the earthquake that killed her family seventeen years ago and she clouds her trauma with her sunshine mask. After being embarrassed in front of other guests at a party, Natalia goes to the rooftop where she meets a handsome man (Alec Knox). They talk and she feels connected with him as he is the only person who has ever seemed to understand her. Things get heated between the two of them. He is gone when she wakes up the next morning and she feels hurt. Surprisingly, they meet again. He is her new professor for the semester and isn’t the same man she met weeks ago. He is rude, grumpy, and hard on her. She swears she hates him, but for some reason, she cannot stop thinking about him. Haunted by the memory of his best friend's death in Afghanistan and how he failed to save him, Alec Knox quits his job as a field surgeon. He opened his clinic to help patients and works as a professor in a private medical college. What Alec doesn’t expect, however, is to meet Natalia Bates, the only woman who’d made him feel something extraordinary for the first time in years. She’s one of the students in his course. As expected, she isn’t happy with him after he abandoned her the morning after they shared an intimate night. And he is even more affected by the situation than she is. He utterly hates how bubbly she is and how his heart flutters whenever he is around her. Things become even more tense and he can’t deny how attracted he is to her. The semester ends and they part ways after he refuses to have aby real relationship with her. Then, a natural disaster strikes.
