Join us for the opening reception of The Centre of the World Was the Beach by Racquel Rowe this coming Saturday!

Drawing inspiration from Dionne Brand's A Map to the Door of No Return, The Centre of the World Was the Beach is a meditation on migration, memory, and identity. Anchored by themes of diasporic connection, domestic spaces, and culinary rituals, the exhibition explores how landscapes—both physical and interior—become sites of cultural continuity and transformation.

Through a series of video works, photographs, and intimate installations, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a living room, evoking the warmth and familiarity of shared histories. Each monitor plays a story, weaving together personal and collective narratives of the Caribbean diaspora, where migration reshapes domestic life, rituals anchor identity, and the beach becomes a symbolic threshold of loss and becoming.

Thank you for joining us at the first Hear Here event of the year!

Last Saturday, we kicked off the first Hear Here concert series of 2025. We appreciate you coming and what a magical night it was! Thank you to performers Animal Vegetable Mineral, Megan Arnold, and Willem James Cowan.
It was also an exciting reveal of recent gallery renovations to improve accessibility and create space for community workshops as part of the upcoming Collaboratory initiative, supported by the London Community Foundation.
The gallery would like to extend a huge thank you to Evan Salt and volunteers for generously offering to complete these renovations. What an exciting change for the new year!
