September 14th - October 1st - Art Prize - Downtown Grand Rapids - ArtPrize is an open, independently organized international art competition that occurs in throughout Grand Rapids, Michigan. The show is open to any creative with an artwork to enter and a venue open to hosting the work.
ArtPrize celebrates artists working in all mediums from anywhere in the world. For 18 days, art is exhibited throughout the city in public parks and museums, in galleries and vacant storefronts, in bars and on bridges. ArtPrize awards $450,000 directly to artists. September 16th - September 17th : VAN RAALTE FARM CIVIL WAR MUSTER BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG - 858 East 24th St., Holland, MI 49423 - The 14th Annual Van Raalte Farm Civil War Muster will be held on September 16-17, 2023. Public parking for visitors is located at 858 E. 24th St, Holland, MI 49423.From there, visitors will be taken via shuttle to the entrance of the park.

MCCA 2023 – 2024 Insurance Company Assessment
Due to the early payout of the MCCA surplus (the $400 that was paid per vehicle in 2022), There is now a deficit in the fund. Everyone will see an increase of $48 per vehicle over the next year. Below is the statement from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association:
"The assessment paid per insured vehicle to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association
(MCCA) will increase for the period July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. The assessment amount will vary, depending
on the level of personal injury protection (PIP) coverage drivers choose.
Those opting for unlimited PIP benefits will see an increase to $122, or 42% higher than the 2022-2023
assessment of $86. The $122 assessment consists of $74 to pay for anticipated new claims and an additional
$48 assessment to address an estimated $ 3.7 billion deficit as of June 30, 2022. Drivers choosing lower levels
of PIP coverage, or no PIP coverage, will pay an MCCA assessment of $48 beginning July 1, 2023 to address
the deficit. This is an increase of $48 over the 2022-2023 assessment, when there was a $0 deficit assessment.
Higher-than-anticipated claims costs resulting from the recent Michigan Court of Appeals decision in Andary
v USAA Casualty Insurance Co., Court of Appeals Docket No. 356487 (Aug. 25, 2022), which ruled that the
family attendant care hourly limits and certain provisions of the medical fee schedule created as part of the
2019 changes to Michigan’s No-Fault Act cannot be applied to losses occurring before June 11, 2019, are
estimated at $3.7 billion. Lower than expected investment returns also impacted the MCCA’s financial
position. An application for leave to appeal the Andary decision is pending in the Michigan Supreme Court,
and the MCCA is monitoring proceedings for any changes that may impact the deficit assessment.

Did you Know : Your Auto May Not be Insured Correctly While Gig Working When you are out trying to make some extra money doing Shipt, DoorDash, Uber, or Lyft in your personal vehicle, you need to have a Commercial policy to be covered correctly. If you are involved in a car accident, your personal auto policy will probably not pay for damages to your vehicle or provide any coverage for injury to your passengers or others. Some carriers offer an extra rider to be added to give you a little coverage. Call us to discuss you specific carrier in more in detail.
A Commercial policy does cost a little more per month, but it will pale in comparison to the cost of medical bills and pain and suffering damages that you might be responsible for if you are involved in a crash without the correct coverage. Below are some links for some of the gig jobs that are out there:*Uber and Lyft drivers in Michigan must be registered with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) . We are partnering with Allegan Homeless Solutions. They provide services and housing to the homeless by bridging gaps, breaking barriers, and bringing solutions. If you would like to help, visit their website or donate by texting GIVE2AHS to 53555. You can also drop off new/gently used items or canned food to our office and we will deliver it! Things to donate are: can openers, personal items (deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, tooth brush/paste), laundry soap, feminine hygiene products, tissues, toilet paper, towels, canned ravioli and spaghetti, fast food and gas gift cards, bottled water, nail clippers, cereal, and non perishable/pull-tab food donations. |
Allegan Homeless Solutions partners with the Plainwell Pizza Hut every last Monday of the month and donates 15% of your purchase. |
The Grand Rapids Red Project is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving health, reducing harm, and preventing HIV. Since 1998, we have served the State of Michigan by providing people with access to the tools, information, resources, and support that one needs to stay healthy. The GRRP provides free Narcan and Naloxone which can help reverse an overdose and training on how to use it. They have a mobile unit that travels to different areas in West Michigan.
