REFUGE GROUP

If you are a practising Buddhist and have taken refuge in a formal ceremony in whatever school of Buddhism and would like to meet others, you may be interested in attending the "Refuge Group". Contact Jisshas <jisshas@googlegroups.com> and tell us when you took refuge and you will be sent the join code. The Refuge Group was one of the first groups established by Global sangha as a support for practice and a meeting place for practitioners. Do join.

TODAY'S PODCAST

Today's podcast is of interest both to the Dharma Ocean and to the Buddhist Psychology students, being concerned with how Buddhism came to China. See link above.

COMMENTARY ON THE SUMMARY OF FAITH & PRACTICE

The meeting for this reading is cancelled this coming week as Priti is not available. We shall, therefore, resume readings every Thursdays at 16:30 as from 24th February, The "Summary of Faith & Practice" is a short writing based upon the Ichimai Kishomon of Honen Shonin. The Commentary is a longer text expanding upon the Summary line by line and along the way setting out many aspects of Pureland Buddhist teaching. The meetings are led by Dharmavidya & Priti Vaishnav. All welcome.

DHARMA OCEAN COURSE

A small group are studying the history of the tradition. Last autumn we studied the transmission in India in the early centuries following the life of the Buddha. In the semester that is just starting there will be four study units covering the transmission of the teaching in China from the beginning of the common era up to the medieval period (13th century). This is a good course for gaining a deeper understanding of the way that the Dharma has spread and adapted to changing historical and social conditions. You can
still join this course: Tickets <https://www.tickettailor.com/events/globalsangha>

WHO IS?
TAN LUAN

Tan Luan is the first person to use the six Chinese syllables that we now pronounce as "Namo Amida Bu".  He lives in Northern China and writes important commentaries that become an important influence upon the development of Chinese Buddhism. In the time of Tan luan, china is divided into two countries, south and north, and his work is an important step in uniting the different styles of Buddhism that have developed in the two domains. He is a great populariser of devotion to Amitabha Buddha. We shall be learning more aboput him in the Dharma Ocean course.
