Yesterday’s quarterly Gear Up & Game On event marked another step in Grounded Boots Relief’s ongoing readiness efforts. Volunteers gathered to assemble our deployment tent, test the setup process, and practice how we would respond in an actual activation. These events strengthen coordination, teamwork, and confidence in our operations.
The deployment tent continues to prove its value. During this session, we tested several interior layouts for different missions. One configuration served as a command post equipped with a whiteboard, map printer, communication devices, laptops, and other coordination tools. Another setup used cots for resting between shifts. We also evaluated how the tent could function as a supply distribution site. Each layout provides insight into how to improve space, comfort, and efficiency in the field.
Rain arrived unexpectedly during the event, offering a real-world test of conditions we often face in the field. The tent, which was meant to be packed up after the event, now needs time to dry before it can be stored. Once the weather clears, we will need a small team of volunteers to help with takedown. Anyone nearby who can lend a hand is encouraged to reach out.
