Walking tall

Pupils in 3JK and 5BH delivered class assemblies this week. The theme of the assembly was around ‘Walk to School Week 2026’. Pupils shared the many benefits of walking to school.

Walking feet go tap, tap, tap
Along the road, we chat and clap
Looking left and right with care
Keeping safe as we get there

All pupils presented brilliantly!

Reception Stay and Play

Reception enjoyed welcoming families into school for our first Stay and Play session this week. It has been wonderful to share the children’s learning experiences and see everyone joining in with the activities together. During the session, we were also delighted to introduce families to The Brush Buddies Club supervised toothbrushing scheme following the fantastic response in Nursery. Thank you for your continued support!

Burning ambition

2NM have been learning about the 1666 Great Fire of London, making paper houses to demonstrate how quickly the fire spread.

Can you feel the force?

Well done to all children who completed our Star Wars-themed attendance challenge 'May the attendance force be with you' by being in school every day from April 28 until yesterday. Every child with a full card received a prize and has been entered into a special prize draw being drawn the week after half term. Here's one of our completed entries.

Kings and Queens top Dodgeball League

Season two of Central’s Dodgeball League is now well underway, with even more pupils taking part. A fantastic mix of around 60 students from all four year groups on the upper site have been competing enthusiastically in what has already been an exciting and closely contested competition.

After the opening rounds, last season’s champions Dodgeball Queens are currently sitting in second place, while The Kings remain at the top of the table with an impressive 100% winning record so far. The standard of competition has been excellent, but most importantly, it has been brilliant to see so many pupils getting involved, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

It has also been particularly pleasing to see students from different year groups mixing together and supporting one another during the league fixtures.

FREE HALF TERM ACTIVITIES

Birds of Prey display

KIDS GO FREE at Woodhorn Museum and there are extra activities for half term next week.
A Birds of Prey display is taking place on Wednesday (May 27). Discover the fascinating world of birds of prey and see spectacular displays with the team from Ridgeside Falconry. The interactive flying displays take place at 12noon and 2pm (weather dependent) and Ridgeside Falconry will also be on hand to answer your questions about the birds of prey alongside their static display from 11am – 3pm.
Eight members of the all-girl Dodgeball team celebrate qualifying for the next round.

Pop Up Ashington Group Hut

The Pop Up Ashington Group Hut is also open every day of the May half term holiday (including bank holiday Monday) for craft activities between 12noon and 3pm. Come along and create your own colourful take on one of the North East’s most loved dog breeds – the whippet! A favourite companion of pitmen beyond the colliery, whippets hold a special place in local history. Take inspiration from the iconic painting 'Whippets' by George Blessed, on display in the Ashington Group Collection Gallery, and craft your own unique doggie creation. No need to pre-book – just drop in. Everyone is welcome.
