Welcome to your

Weekly Update

Dear Friends

Welcome Charlotte
We very much look forward to welcoming Charlotte Coe as our new Families and Children’s Ministry Leader. Although Charlotte will begin full-time with us at the beginning of September, she will be shadowing Celeste over a few days during June and July. This will allow her to see what Celeste does as well as to receive a proper handover. Charlotte introduces herself in the next paragraph. Meanwhile, on behalf of us all, I want to express our gratitude to Charlotte for her willingness to serve as our Families and Children’s Ministry Leader, and for the Lord’s provision of Charlotte.

Charlotte’s introduction
I’m really excited to be joining the St Nicolas church family as the new Families and Children’s Minister. A bit about me — I love all things creative and have lots of experience working with young people. Over the past few years, I’ve done a variety of performance jobs, including working as a singer and panto performer at resorts, touring with a children’s theatre company, and singing at the Minack Theatre Proms. I’ve also hosted many drama workshops in schools across the UK and worked in multiple schools. Currently, I’m the drama teacher at Stagecoach Bookham and was the singing teacher at the Leatherhead Theatre school. When I’m not working, I love gardening — right now I’m a bit overwhelmed with sweet peas! I’m really looking forward to meeting you all and getting involved.

Welcome Benjamin
We look forward to welcoming Benjamin Hoyte, Church Engagement Manager at The Bible Society, as our preacher at our 10 o’clock service this coming Sunday. As you know, we try to hear from one of the mission organisations we support every term, and this term it is the turn of The Bible Society. We have many reasons to be thankful for The Bible Society, not least the helpful resources they provide. We will, for instance, be using The Romans Course as a framework for our preaching beginning in August.

Supporting the work of Bookham United Charities
Bookham United Charities (BUC) has been a blessing to many local people over the years, through providing one-off grants to help those in particular need, and also through the provision of ten almshouses in Flint Close. Peter Crook has been our fantastic treasurer for at least 25 years – thank you, Peter – but he is now ready to hand the role on to someone a little younger and with new energy. Could you be our next treasurer? If yes, we’d be really pleased to speak with you as this is a vital role. In the first instance, please have a word with me (alan.jenkins@stnicolasbookham.org.uk or 01372 635873).

This week is Refugee Week
Refugee Week seeks to foster understanding and an appreciation for those seeking sanctuary in countries across the world. Attieh Fard, the Bishop of Guildford’s Refugee Advisor, is encouraging churches to pray during Refugee Week for the people of Iran and Israel amid an escalation of military action, and to also pray that, if the Iranian regime changes, there will be safety and security for Christians in the country.

Keeping up to date
Our weekly notice sheet is once again available online (click here) and in church. If you were not able to be in a service last Sunday morning, the Bible readings, sermon and prayers are also available online; click here.

And finally…
"When we meet on Sundays and midweek, do we, like Paul, have our eyes fixed firmly on Jesus? Do we seek to build up everyone in the church, whatever age or stage they’re at, so that we all grow more like Jesus? Or do we leave that to the ‘professional Christians’, turning up purely to be fed and leave?" (Jo Trickey, LICC’s Word for the Week)

Wishing you much joy and peace.

Alan
