April has flown by and it seems that Spring has finally arrived. May is likely to be a very busy month with a packed schedule including live music, bingo, plus the Champions League and FA Cup finals, the latter of which will be preceded by a barbecue. Sadly, our entertainment licence does not permit us to televise the Eurovision Song Contest following the Cup Final, so we recommend that any fans of this event should watch it on catch-up through the lens of a mild hangover on Sunday morning.

A word from our Chairman

Welcome to our May bulletin.

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying the sunshine. As you may have noticed the grass has been laid out again which has always proved very popular. May I encourage you to all take your glasses back to the bar when using this facility.

April has been a steady month with the return of Robbie Culley who is a fabulous entertainer. And the highlight of the month, was undoubtedly the chairman winning the Quiz, albeit with a little help from the rest of the team! I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible over the coming month.

Club matters

Club Secretary vacancy

The Club committee is continuing to search for a new Club Secretary and we have extended our search beyond the Club membership and are inviting applications from the general public.

If you are interested in applying for the role or finding out more information, please email the Club at info@thebroadwayclub.co.uk and you will be sent further details.

Vaping

Members, guests and staff are reminded that vaping is not permitted anywhere inside the Club premises. Any member who wishes to vape should do so on the veranda outside the Club. Any member, guest or staff caught vaping will be subjected to disciplinary action by the Committee.

At the Club this month

Join us on Saturday 9th May for live music from The Remastered

The Remastered return to the Club this month playing pop, rock, and funk covers from across the decades. Always a popular fixture at the Club, come along for a great night of live music!

Entry fee for guests will be £3, payable on the door.

FA Cup final and barbecue

Saturday 16th May sees the culmination of this season's FA Cup competition with eight time winners Chelsea taking on seven time winners Manchester City. To mark this occasion, the Club will be hosting a barbecue before the match. The barbecue will start at 3pm and will be finished in time for kick off at 4:30pm.

Bingo Night

It's eyes down on Saturday 23rd May for another Broadway classic bingo night. As usual, places are limited to 60 seats, so make sure you get down to the Club to reserve your seat on the noticeboard. Places for previous nights have filled up quickly, so don't miss out on your chance to play. Keep an eye out on the noticeboard for the signup sheet.

We will be trying out a new supplier for our evening food on this occasion. Food from Wok-U-Like may be ordered for this event and will need to be paid for by Wednesday 20th May. If you wish to play but don’t want food, you will be charged a refundable £5 deposit per person to secure your seats.

Club Competitions

The annual golf society day will be taking place on Friday 29th May at the Downshire club near Bracknell. As usual, the competition be preceded with a full English breakfast, and will be contested over 18 holes with scoring by stableford rules. There are still a handful of places available, so make sure you write your name on the sheet as soon as possible. If you have signed up for this event, please make sure you make your payment (£41.50 or £39 for members aged 67 and above) by Thursday 21st May.

The end of the World Snooker Championship traditionally heralds the start of the annual Club snooker competition. Signup sheets for the singles and doubles competitions may now be found on the noticeboard, with the draw for both competitions due to take place at the end of May.

Meat raffle

Don't forget about our meat raffle, which takes place on Friday 29th May between 9pm and 10pm with some great prizes to be won. Tickets are available at the bar, payable in cash.
