To Boldly Go Where No Artisan Sourdough Bread Has Gone Before...

NOTE: If this is your first Breadness Buzz, or if you've been part of our tribe but missed earlier posts, visit the Breadness Buzz Archive here and catch up on this content written especially for you (by me!). It's a great way to meet like-minded artisan sourdough aficionados and be part of this journey I started back in 2016. And now for this week's Buzz...

To Boldly Go Where No Artisan Sourdough Bread Has Gone Before...

Captain Picard: "Computer: Tea, Earl Grey, Hot, and a loaf of organic artisan sourdough bread, 3-day dough process, 24-hour cured."

Star Trek: The Next Generation fans will recognize the request often made by Captain Picard to the ship's replicator, controlled by the ship's computer (voiced by Gene Rodenberry's wife, Majel Barrett, who also starred as Counselor Troi's mother). Less obvious, but nonetheless a critical part of the Star Trek Universe is the music. And we're delighted that Dennis McCarthy (in the above photo), the composer/arranger for hundreds of Star Trek TV episodes as well as the feature film, Star Trek: Generations, is a long-time customer at Random Acts of Breadness!

The above 4-CD set cover features the evocative music of Dennis McCarthy and several other Star Trek composers. Shortly after its release in 2022, Dennis gifted me with one of these sets and we've played the music at the bakery through our 2.1 computer sound system.

Earlier this year, Dennis finished a new album of solo piano works entitled, "Tunes of Future Past," to which he also bestowed a copy of that fine collection of music to us. What an honor it is to know Dennis, to love his music and to get to see him from time to time in our humble little bakery.

Another Star Trek-Breadness connection is actor Steve Rankin. Steve's been cast in 4 different roles in the Star Trek Universe and is also a fan of Breadness! Click/tap his name above to read an awesome interview with this versatile actor.

Lastly, I have a Majel Barrett connection that happened long before we opened the bakery. Majel was the voice talent for an interactive computer-based travel guide to various cities around the world. The voice prompts were recorded by me at Theta Sound Studio. It was a fun project and, of course, I got to hear stories about Gene Rodenberry and the early days of Star Trek.

Harriet Schock's Hollywood Town movie now in Final Funding Phase!

It certainly takes a village to make a movie, especially when there's no movie studio involved! But the success of the indiegogo phases 1, 2 and 3 crowdfunding campaigns for "Hollywood Town - The Harriet Schock Story," are proof that people want to see worthwhile stories about people who have made and continue to make a difference in the world, told through the medium of film. Producer, writer, director Tom Solari has been burning the midnight oil, editing the footage and gearing up for the final finishing touches: sound mixing, color correcting, and then the marketing of the finished work to film festivals and other public screening possibilities.

There's less than a week to go in the Phase 4 campaign and they're almost at the finish line. A few more donations will put the project on the final completion track. And to make it even more fun, I've donated an unlimited number of Random Acts of Breadness Artisan Country Loaves, to be shipped anywhere in the contiguous 48 states. You or someone you know, can choose this unique perk when you make a donation at that level. Visit this link, watch the trailer, read the pitch, then scroll down the list of incentives until you find the Delicious Designer Sourdough box. Follow the prompts from there and your Breadness will be shipped in September (assuming the funding target is made).

Time is of the essence so please take a moment this weekend to see how you can help...

Random Acts of Breadness Awarded "Most Loved" by DoorDash!

Pretty cool, huh? We've been a DoorDash partner for nearly 2 years now. And last week we had 5 DoorDash orders in one day! It's always fun to get that phone call and check the DoorDash portal on our order system to see what surprises are in store. If you live/work within the DoorDash delivery zone for our location, you can have any of the products we make/sell within minutes of placing your order (including Raw Farm Butter)! Place your order (or check to see if you are in the DoorDash delivery zone) using our DoorDash Storefront page here.

This week at the bakery: Traditional Country Loaves and Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan Sourdough!

And, of course, we have all the goodies that go with Breadness, like Raw Farm Butter (or Nutiva vegan butter), NuttZo Keto CrunchLaura Ann's JamsClif Family Honey SpreadsOjai Olive Oil Company Organic Extra Virgin Olive OilsBalsamic Vinegars and Beyond the Olive Tapenades!

Many of our customers buy more than one loaf of bread so they can freeze some for later use (or give it as a gift in the middle of the week). If you plan on freezing your bread, let us know so we can give you bread that's already frozen and double bagged. Many of the frozen loaves are already sliced, making it easy for you to take only the slices you want from the frozen loaf and letting them thaw in another sealed bag on your counter for about 30 minutes. We have fresh and frozen Country Loaves and the Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan Loaves described above.
