It has been an eventful semester for the Geriatric Health Services Research Lab filled with diverse opportunities to present our research to colleagues and community members. We remain eager to continue finding better options for older adults and their care partners and are excited to continue collaborating with others in this space.

Here are a few highlights from our lab this past semester:
  • Riding in the Moment launched implementation manual and curriculum
  • Dr. Fields received a K23 grant through the NIA to fund the CHAT-AD Study
  • Caregiver Hospital Inclusion Study completed data analysis
August- Dr. Fields, Maddie Carbery, Alicia Oestreich, and Chloe Muntefering presented at the World Federation of Occupational Therapy International Congress in Paris, France.
September- Junha Park and Chloe Muntefering presented their research at the 32nd Institute on Aging Colloquium. Junha won the IOA Colloquium New Investigator Award. (See Below)
October- Dr. Fields and Weston Dixon presented research on Riding in the Moment at the PATH International Conference in St. Louis, MO.
November- Dr. Fields, Junha Park, Andrea Yahr, Kaitlyn Vanias, and Kate Perepezko presented at the Gerontological Society of America's Annual Conference in Indianapolis, IN.
December- Our second-year OTD students had their pinning ceremony and gave a poster presentation about their research project. Congrats to Weston, Anna, McKenzie, Kelsey, and Catherine as they venture out into fieldwork!
In October, the GHSRL spent the day hanging out with horses and local families at the Three Gaits fall fundraiser event. Lab members assisted with various activity stations for the event. Three Gaits is one of our community partners that offers equine-assisted activities and therapies aimed at improving the lives of people with physical, emotional, and intellectual challenges.
  • Hometown:
    • New Lisbon, Wisconsin
  • Prior Work:
    • Middle School Science Teacher
  • Motivation for career shift:
    • I was ready to try something new but loved being a part of the world of      education.  It seemed like a great opportunity to assist researchers in        continuing to make a positive impact on others.
  • Favorite part of new role:
    • Being a part of a team!
  • Favorite Occupations:
    • I get to work with people:  the participants, the stakeholders, and               the students of all levels who add positive interactions to my day.
We look forward to 2023 and the continued trajectory of our research lab. Thank you for being a part of our community. We are grateful to share ideas, learn, and challenge new possibilities with you.

From the GHRSL, we wish you a new year filled with fresh energy, insight, and innovation.
