Background: Elena earned a BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford. She went on to earn her PhD in Computer Science from Princeton University and she was a Moore Sloan Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Data Science at NYU. Current Role: Elena is a Staff Fellow at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) at the US Food and Drug Administration. She is interested in problems at the intersection of AI, medical imaging, and computer vision. Her current research examines the use of synthetic data in medical imaging and regulatory science. 👉CDRH is always looking for talented researchers. - The Privacy and Public Policy Conference, which will take place at Georgetown Massive Data Institute in DC from Sep. 13-14, 2024, is accepting abstracts. Submit by Feb. 29.
- The 2024 Advances in Social Genomics Conference invites paper submissions on the biodemographic factors across the life course that shape health and aging processes. There is no conference registration fee. Funding is available for travel/accommodations of selected papers. Submit by Mar. 15.
Grants, Fellowships, and Scholarships- Women in GIS is accepting applications from women of all career stages and in any country for its 2024 Awards and Scholarships Program. WGIS will issue 9 awards and scholarships in 6 categories. Apply by Feb. 21 at 11:59pm PST.
- USAID is accepting applications for a 2-year experiential professional development opportunity for American scientists and engineers that begins in Oct. 2024. Apply by Feb. 29.
- The National Institute of Justice is accepting applications from PhD students for its Graduate Research Fellowship. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a science or engineering program and whose dissertation research has direct implications for preventing and controlling crime, advancing knowledge of victimization and effective victim services, or ensuring the fair and impartial administration of criminal or juvenile justice in the US. The fellowship is for $41,000 per year (for up to 3 years of funding), up to $16,000 in education allowance, and up to $3,000 in research expenses. Apply by Apr. 10.
- The National Institute on Aging is accepting applications from early-stage investigators for its Butler-Williams Scholars Program. Apply by Apr. 19.
- The Institute for Advanced Study invites applicants with a PhD to apply for its 2024–25 Civic Science Fellow.
Internships- The Princess Cruise company is accepting applications from data science undergrad or master’s students for its 10-week paid (remote) summer internship program. Apply by Feb. 24.
- Brookings announced several internship opportunities for students of all levels for this summer. Open to F1 students. Apply by Feb. 25.
- Women in Neuroscience is accepting applications from neuroscience and neurology students for a summer internship that runs from Jun. 3, 2024 - Aug. 9, 2024. Apply by Mar. 1.
- Mathematica is accepting applications from current students at all levels for its 10-week summer internship. Questions regarding visa sponsorship should be directed to universityrecruiting@mathematica-mpr.com.
- The Pudding is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students (or someone who has graduated within past 1 year) for its 10-week summer fellowship from (Jun. 18 to Sep. 1, 2024). - Samsung is accepting applications from current undergraduate or graduate students studying HCI or Computer Science for its 2024 Summer Intern, Data Science & ML Prototyper. The internship is based in San Francisco and offers an hourly pay range of $36-$61.
- Roche is accepting applications for a remote, 12-week, graduate-level AI for Causal ML internship that starts in May/June 2024.
- Genentech posted several internship opportunities for students at all levels, including international students although visa support depends on the position.
- Roblox is accepting applications from PhD students who are in their third year or later for its Data Science Intern position this summer. Must be willing to work full-time onsite in San Mateo. Hourly pay range is $60-64.
