Three homebase classes spent time recently cleaning up around the school as part of the Cold Weather Warm Hearts month of service.
We are excited to share that all of our middle school students are engaged in our January “Cold Weather, Warm Hearts” month of service.
Given that January is the coldest and darkest time of the year, a dedicated group of educators at the middle school (the SM Way team) came up with this idea as a way to spread positivity, fun and service to our community.
We are only a few weeks in and there are many awesome projects started. Some of the projects include reading to buddies at Rawson, answering questions about the middle school via video message for incoming 5th graders at E. W. Luther, putting together care bags for the homeless, picking up trash around the school and neighborhood, and the list goes on!
On February 2nd we’ll hold an all school assembly to celebrate and highlight all of the great service work that’s happened (and will continue to happen) around the school and the community.
Any job you have in your career, whether it's hands-on like construction or in an office setting or anywhere in between, employees who are most successful can manage their stress productively and in a healthy way, respond appropriately to setbacks, and manage conflict with coworkers.
Having a grasp of these skills may well determine if you keep a job if you get promoted, and how easy it is to find another job if you need to. In our personal lives, these abilities help us make and keep friends and cope with what life throws at you.
Our guest on this episode is Heidi Nehring, is the teacher who developed the Foundations for Success Middle School program, she teaches students various ways to manage these feelings and situations so students don't have to learn them the hard way.
Recently South Milwaukee 7th and 8th grade middle school students were offered a chance to learn CPR and how to use an AED.
This effort is part of a nation-wide push to offer non certification hands-on inservice training to as many citizens as possible. South Milwaukee middle school staff member Mr Dorangrichia (smms bldg substitute teacher) who is a retired Fire Captain / Paramedic is providing the training.
The training consists of watching two short videos on CPR and AED followed by hands-on participation. The training has been offered to middle school 7th and 8th grade science students and so far has instructed approximately 250 students.
They all learned how to save a life and had a little fun too. Special thanks to the SDSM District Office, SDSM District Nurse Stephanie Cahlamer
and the South Milwaukee Fire Department.
Interested candidates should reach out to Recreation Department Director Stan Dorff at 414-766-5082 sdorff@sdsm.k12.wi.us
The COVID testing location at the High School (Door 8) will end on April 28 when state funding expires. There will also not be testing during Spring Break from March 27-31.
