St. Thomas More

Arts & Environment Committee

Hello Friends,

I hope your 2025 is off to a good start in this Jubilee Holy Year of Hope! I'm using a different email address for the A&E Committee this year, but I'm still the same person. :-)

Following are volunteer signups for Ash Wednesday through the Easter Vigil. We hope to have a great turnout of old and new volunteers of all ages, just like Christmas! Click on the buttons below to sign up. Also below is an important note about Holy Saturday, April 19th.

Our committee chairperson, Mary Doerflein, coordinated with parish staff and volunteers representing Youth Ministry, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Hispanic community to help with palm weaving for Palm Sunday. We are grateful for such wonderful collaboration among different communities and cross sections of St. Thomas More.

Please let me know if you have questions. Many thanks for your service to our parish.

In Christ,
Lisa Hirsh

Importance of the Arts & Environment Committee

The Arts & Environment Committee is a liturgical ministry. Our decorating goes beyond simply making the church look beautiful. Flower arrangements, art work and decorations enhance and amplify the signs and symbols of liturgical celebrations. They help draw everyone into worship, into Christ's sanctifying presence, and give glory to God.

"The great religions of mankind witness, often impressively, to this cosmic and symbolic meaning of religious rites. The liturgy of the Church presupposes, integrates and sanctifies elements from creation and human culture, conferring on them the dignity of signs of grace, of the new creation in Jesus Christ." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1149)

Photographers Needed!

Do you enjoy snapping photos with your phone? Mary Doerflein and I (Lisa) can use your help with taking photos of our comittee's work, both the preparation phase and finished look for liturgical seasons and holy days.

Please email me if you're interested. Thanks!
