NIGMS is hosting an informational webinar about the Instrumentation Grant Program for Resource-Limited Institutions (RLI-S10) (PAR-23-138) on Monday, May 5, 3 to 4:30 pm CT. The next application deadline is July 3.
The webinar will feature an overview of the RLI-S10 program and tips on optimizing your application. Participants must register to attend and may submit questions in advance as part of the registration process.
The RLI-S10 program goals include: Providing funding for purchase of modern scientific instruments at resource-limited institutions Expanding education and research capacity Supporting biomedical research and education in basic, translational, and biomedically related behavioral or clinical fields Students and trainees may also benefit from access to the instrument in formal courses.
This NOFO is specific to institutions with limited NIH Research Project Grant funding. Applications to the RLI-S10 program must list at least three major users, including researchers with a scientific need for the instrument or those who wish to use it for teaching upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses. A unique aspect of this NOFO is that one of the three major users can participate in an upper-level undergraduate or graduate laboratory course to integrate the instrument into learning objectives.
This program should interest R16-eligible institutions, although eligibility requirements for R16 and RLI-S10 grants are not identical, so read the NOFO carefully to determine eligibility. The program director/principal investigator and major users are not required to have current NIH awards at the time of submission.

NIH to prioritize human-based research technologies. NIH is adopting a new initiative to expand innovative, human-based science while reducing animal use in research. While traditional animal models continue to be vital to advancing scientific knowledge, using new and emerging tech can offer unique strengths that, when utilized correctly or in combination, can expand the toolbox for researchers to answer previously difficult or unanswerable biomedical research questions.
