We are delighted to share the success of our recent Voluntary Action South West Surrey Mini Conference 2026: Trustees, held on 24 March at the Wilfred Noyce Community Centre in Godalming.

 

Bringing together a vibrant mix of voluntary, charity and community sector organisations, the half-day event created a dynamic space for learning, sharing, and meaningful connection. With a programme of interactive workshops, expert-led discussions, and valuable networking opportunities, the conference focused on strengthening trustee knowledge, governance, and leadership across the sector.

 

 

The event welcomed a fantastic turnout of attendees, all eager to explore key topics such as trustee recruitment, retention, and effective governance. The energy in the room reflected a shared commitment to building resilient organisations and stronger communities.

 

Participants engaged enthusiastically with the sessions, exchanging ideas, experiences, and practical solutions. The opportunity to connect with peers facing similar challenges proved invaluable, reinforcing the importance of collaboration within our sector.

 

 

We were thrilled to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees. Many highlighted the relevance of the topics, the quality of the speakers, and the supportive, collaborative atmosphere throughout the morning.

 

Attendees shared that they left feeling inspired, better equipped in their roles, and motivated to implement new ideas within their organisations. The networking element was particularly praised, with new partnerships and connections already beginning to take shape.

 

 

This Mini Conference forms part of our ongoing commitment to supporting trustees and strengthening the voluntary sector across South West Surrey. Events like these play a vital role in equipping organisations with the tools, confidence, and connections they need to thrive.

Residents across Surrey are being encouraged to get “election ready” ahead of major local elections on 7 May 2026, which will shape the future of council services across the county.

The vote marks a significant step in local government reorganisation, with Surrey’s current two-tier system set to be replaced by two new unitary authorities: East Surrey and West Surrey. From April 2027, these new councils will take over responsibility for all local services, including education, housing, roads, waste collection and social care. 

Voters will elect councillors to represent them on the new authorities, with those elected serving a five-year term until 2031. Initially, councillors will operate as part of a “shadow authority”, helping to set budgets, governance structures and prepare for the full transition of services. 

Residents are being reminded to check they are registered to vote by the deadline of 20 April 2026. People can vote in person, by post or by proxy, but must ensure they meet all requirements, including providing valid photo ID when voting at polling stations.

While the new councils are being established, existing county, borough and district councillors will remain in place until March 2027, ensuring services continue as normal during the transition period. 

Officials stress that the elections are an important opportunity for residents to have their say on how their communities will be represented and run under the new system.

Elysian’s Outreach Hub Sessions bring small animals into local spaces, offering both group and 1:1 sessions for young people aged 7-19, focused on emotional regulation, confidence, and re-engagement within the community.

 A new funding opportunity is available through ActionFunder, a UK platform that connects businesses with local charities and community groups to support grassroots projects.  

 

Backed by the Berkeley Foundation and Guildford Borough Council, the fund focuses on initiatives that help build stronger, healthier communities—particularly around the North Street development. It aligns with priorities such as creating inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable neighbourhoods.

 

Applications are open to a wide range of groups, including charities, social enterprises, community organisations, and informal groups. Projects must demonstrate clear local benefit and outline how funding will be used in detail. The funders are open to fully supporting projects or contributing alongside other partners.

 

The fund is aimed at projects within the GU1 area and a one-mile radius. Successful applicants will be announced in May 2026.

  

  

  

  

  

  

 

Godalming Minster is recruiting a part-time Foodbank and Community Centre Manager to lead and develop its vital work at the Franklyn Road site. This 12-month role (with potential extension) will focus primarily on overseeing the Foodbank while also supporting the day-to-day running of the Community Centre and building operations.

 

The successful candidate will manage Foodbank services, coordinate volunteers, build relationships with local partners, and help shape future provision to better meet community needs. They will also play a key role in promoting the Community Centre as a welcoming space for local groups and activities, while ensuring the site is well-managed, safe, and compliant.

 

This is a hands-on, mission-focused role requiring strong organisational skills, compassion for vulnerable people, and a commitment to Christian service. The position is for 18 hours per week across three days.

   

Many people seeking help face severe challenges—nearly half have considered or attempted suicide before reaching out, often struggling with isolation, debt, and shame. Your referrals are helping to change lives.

 

In 2025, CAP Guildford supported 35 new households with free debt counselling, with 12 households becoming debt-free. A further 19 households received emergency food and energy support. The Job Club welcomed 35 members, with 6 moving into employment, while 34 people completed Life Skills or Money Coaching courses to better manage their finances and wellbeing. 

                  

     

The popular Haslemere Fringe Festival returns to Lion Green from 3–5 July 2026, promising a packed, family-friendly weekend of music, comedy and entertainment. Run entirely by volunteers, the biennial event will feature more than 50 live acts alongside dance, poetry, children’s activities and local artisan stalls.

 

Organisers have announced the Friday line-up, headlined by rock band Reef, with additional performances from Shakatak, ARXX and a range of emerging and local artists.

 

Comedy is also a key part of the opening night, hosted by local comedian Andy Stedman and featuring award-winning acts including Mark Simmons, Tania Edwards and Jonny Awsum.

 

New for 2026 is a Sunday morning “Wellness at the Fringe” programme, offering yoga, fitness sessions, sound baths and talks aimed at promoting wellbeing.

 

Further acts for the rest of the weekend are set to be announced, with organisers encouraging volunteers to get involved in helping deliver the community festival.

A new community support group starting at Ripley Village Hall for people experiencing memory loss and those seeking connection in a friendly, welcoming environment. Hosted by Age UK Surrey, the Ripley Memory & Friendship Group offers opportunities for conversation, engaging activities, and visits from local services, along with helpful information sharing.

 

Sessions will take place on alternate Fridays from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Attendees can also enjoy tea and biscuits while socialising.
