Over ten days, our customers donated nearly 100 loaves of our organic artisan sourdough bread to fire fighters and support teams in Pasadena and Burbank. I and my staff thank each of you who helped in this endeavor.

Janie's Mill in Ashkum, Illinois, is our Organic Light Rye flour supplier (there's about 10% light rye in our artisan sourdough breads). In response to my outreach for Breadness donations for the first responders, Janie's Mill sent me an e-mail asking if they could donate some of their flour to our bakery.

I wrote back and told them I was ready to place an order for our usual two 25-lb. bags of organic light rye and if they wanted to donate one of those to the cause, that would be awesome.

I placed the order for two bags, and shipping (which costs about as much as the two bags of flour) and sent it off. A couple days later I received an e-mail that both bags were being donated and to watch for the delivery.

The rye flour arrived yesterday and the entire order was donated, including the shipping!

The outpouring of help from all over the country has  been so heartwarming. We are fortunate to be connected to people whose willingness to help knows no bounds.

We are truly grateful...


Buy Some, Give Some...

Our first responders donations program is on pause for now (fire fighters were overwhelmed with donated goods!). So we turn our focus to those we know who were directly affected by recent events. Even people we know in the Pasadena/Altadena area whose homes are still standing, must deal with the after-effects of smoke, toxins, ash, and returning to areas that will require rebuilding from the ground up.

When you come to the bakery for some Breadness for you and your family, consider picking up some loaves and other things to bring comfort to those you know who are in need.

Oftentimes the smallest gesture brings the greatest joy...
