Dear <<First Name>>,
The big day is getting closer, and we hope your training is going strong! We’re so excited to welcome you to this year’s Point to La Pointe Swim – and we want to make sure you have all the key details for a safe, smooth, and unforgettable experience. Here are a few important updates and reminders to help you prepare for race day, which is less than a 100 days away:
Bring Your Photo ID for Packet Pickup
To keep everyone safe and ensure accurate swimmer records, a valid photo ID is required at packet pick-up. Please remember – no ID, no packet! Swapping bibs or swimming under someone else’s name is strictly prohibited and creates serious safety risks and will get you disqualified.
Forgot your buoy? We’ll have a limited number available for purchase at packet pick-up – but we highly recommend getting yours ahead of time.
Swim Caps Required to pick up Timing Chips
Timing chips will be distributed on race morning at the beach – but only to swimmers who bring and show their official swim caps. This step helps us keep track of everyone in the water. Don’t forget it! Everyone must pick up their own timing chips.
Wetsuits are mandatory - Here's why
We want to remind all swimmers that wetsuits are mandatory for this event. While the past couple of years the lake has been warmer than normal, it's important to remember that Lake Superior is still a very cold body of water, usually in the mid sixties (62-67 °F) during race-week and conditions can change quickly.
Recent unseasonably warm years may have created a false sense of comfort, but this doesn't reflect the lake’s usual—and unpredictable—conditions.
For your safety, comfort, and performance, please plan to wear a wetsuit.
Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you in the water—prepared and safe!.
For those swimmers with demonstrated experience swimming in cold water without a wetsuit and who are worried about overheating, a wetsuit waiver is available and must be submitted in advance. You can find it on our website under the Swim Requirements section. There's a link to the website at the end of this email. Waived swimmers will get a special arm marking Saturday morning. More information will be coming. No waivers will be admitted the morning of the race. If you need to purchase a wetsuit, please consider our sponsor Xterra Wetsuits.
