Quote of the Week:

“Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods; and good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts.” — James Beard

NOTE: If this is your first Breadness Buzz, or  you've been part of our tribe but missed earlier posts, visit the Breadness Buzz Archive here and catch up on some Breaducation written especially for you. It's a great way to meet like-minded artisan sourdough aficionados and be part of this journey I started back in 2016. And now for this week's Buzz...

Soda Bread or Sourdough for St. Patty's Day?

Nothing like St. Patty's Day to bring to mind traditional Irish fare like Corned Beef & Cabbage, Soda Bread and Green Beer! It's a unique assortment of flavors and textures that we look forward to this time of year. More labor-intensive than Thanksgiving, the Corned Beef takes longer to make than a turkey, and Soda Bread from scratch is quite a task. As for the green beer, not many people make their own! Fortunately, Trader Joe's makes a traditional Soda Bread and I mentioned pasture-raised Corned Beef from Harvest Gathering Farm in the last Breadness Buzz (it's pre-brined but you still get to cook it all day and fill your house with that unmistakable aroma of the brine spices). However, availability is very limited so check this page today as it might be sold out!

So, can Soda Bread and Artisan Sourdough co-exist for St. Patty's Day weekend? Absolutely! For one, after the main dinner, there should be plenty of Corned Beef with which to make sandwiches (and Reubens!). That's not really in Soda Bread's wheelhouse. But our organic Artisan Sourdough (boules and batards), sliced thin and with a good dollop of coarse-ground mustard, surrounding that leftover CB, keeps the celebration going an extra day or two.

So go ahead and have Soda Bread AND our Artisan Sourdough Bread this weekend. There's likely to be a pot of gold at the end of the RainDough...

Bobby Owsinski's Inner Circle Podcast...

One of the best parts of our sourdough journey is the people we've met along the way. Our customers are very special to us and we endeavor to learn more about them every time they come to the bakery. Some of our customers are famous in various circles, and what a joy it is to discover that, long after we've known them as Breadness aficionados.

One such person is Producer/Engineer, Author and Coach, Bobby Owsinski...

Bobby is widely regarded as one of the best audio mixing teachers in the business. His books are found in college classrooms and at the workstations of world renowned mixers. He also is a podcaster and has produced over 500 episodes of his Inner Circle Podcast featuring icons of the industry plus timely audio technology and business segments.

So I was surprised and honored to be chosen by Bobby to be a featured guest on his podcast! But because our discussion covered my two careers: music and food, we ended up talking for about 2 hours! Bobby edited our lively discussion into 2 podcast episodes which you can access here: Inner Circle Podcast #510 and Inner Circle Podcast #511.

For those of you who have heard me tell the story of how Random Acts of Breadness came to be, I'm sure you'll find the earlier story of how I ended up starting my own recording studio quite engaging. And how the idea of making sourdough bread came into my life and what happened to make me want to start a bakery in addition to the running the studio.

Now that both episodes have been released, you won't be left hanging at the end of episode 510. Grab another cup of your favorite brew and listen to episode 511 for the thrilling conclusion!

And do check out all of Bobby's excellent podcasts. Like me, you're likely going to become a fan of his unique channel.
