This stunning book of poetry is in fact two collections:
Pain Log, is a suite of body horror poems that explores illness as a haunting, where loss of control is a kind of possession and the ghosts in medical machines have desires of their own.
Ship's Log, is a suite of near-future speculative poems narrated by an AI, a bi-species scientific community, and a pair of star-crossed interspecies lovers.
Malli’s poetry is as gorgeous as it is meticulous, each word carefully chosen to comfort or unsettle or entrance you. Many of these poems have stuck with me long after I first read them.
If you love speculative fiction but don’t typically read poetry, this collection is an excellent entry point. The worlds Malli creates within these poems are as stunning as any sci-fi epic.
