Quote of the Week:

Pastured Meats from Harvest Gathering Farm...

in 2017 when I read Dr. Gundry's groundbreaking book, The Plant Paradox, I became aware that harmful lectins (toxic plant proteins that protect the plant, its seeds and its sprouts from being eaten) can be found not only in plants, but also in sources of meat proteins, including fish. That's because when you eat animal proteins, you're eating what they ate. Most proteins are raised on a diet of grains, corn and soy., and the lectins from those feeds end up in the meats.

While in Ojai during Christmas 2017, I was fortunate to find Harvest Gathering Farm at the Ojai Farmers Market. They specialize in pasture-raised beef, lamb, pork (including bacon) and chickens! These chickens get to eat their natural diet of bugs in the ground instead of grains, and when the bugs run out, these chickens are given vegetable compost to supplement their diet. They also have pastured eggs.

Although Harvest Gathering Farm is based in Ventura, they have a presence at several Farmers Markets in the LA area. Until recently, the closest one to me was in South Pasadena on Thursday afternoons. But I just found out that they now have a stand at the Burbank Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Hallelujah! It's best to order early in the week via their website (which has LOTS of choices) and then come by the Farmers Market to pay and pick up your items. Since the cost is based on weight, only an estimate is given on the website; final payment is made upon pickup. Cash, Zelle or Venmo accepted. No credit/debit cards.Note: As of this writing, Harvest Gathering Farm has changed its name to Farm to Table Meats. However, the website is still harvestgatheringfarm.com

And just in time for St. Patrick's Day, check out their Corned Beef Brisket and Shepherds Pie!

DON'T FORGET TO...
