Raise your hand if you were at the bakery for our Grand Opening weekend, August 2021...

NOTE: If this is your first Breadness Buzz, or if you've been part of our tribe but missed earlier posts, visit the Breadness Buzz Archive here and catch up on this content written especially for you (by me!). It's a great way to meet like-minded artisan sourdough aficionados and be part of this journey I started back in 2016. And now for this week's Buzz...

Raise your hand if you were at the bakery for our Grand Opening weekend, August 6-7, 2021...

Wow... that's a bunch! We had no idea what was going to happen when I took that leap of faith, put some pieces in place, then proclaimed to myself: "Let's see if this bread's as good as my friends and family say it is." But the buzz had been building even before our Sneak Preview in June with "there's a new bread shop coming" discussions on Nextdoor.com and the Burbank Restaurant Support Group on facebook (I didn't even know there was such a group; I've been a regular contributor ever since!).

You probably know the story by now... we sold out the first day (Friday) in 2 hours! Then we sold out the next day in an hour-and-a-half and had a waiting list for the next week!

Some highlights from Grand Opening weekend... We gave our Grand Opening balloons to these young ones; Grammy winner and founding member of The New Christy Minstrels, Art Podell, and his wife Judy; our neighbors who live across from us in the Burbank Rancho.

The customer's view of the bakery; Certificate of Recognition from the Mayor's Office presented to us, and I gave Vice-Mayor Jess Talamantes a loaf of Breadness! My wife and Team Breadness member, Cyndie, is on the left.

Katy was our first Team Breadness member. She and I made all the loaves during the week, and on the weekend, with Cyndie, serviced our customers. Katy now lives in Florida and she's looking forward to starting the next Random Acts of Breadness store in the Tampa Bay area!

Celebrate our 2-Year Anniversary with us all month long!

Nothing says success better than our awesome Frequent Flour Rewards members. Since creating this game in April 2022, we've given away loads of loaves for those who've completed their cards (12 loaves). Several of our customers have multiple cards mounted on the slicer and the wall! The following photos are from just the last 2 weekends in July!

A new customer with 4-legged friend, and our first official customer, Mark Schwartz, who's the reason we are located at 2214 West Magnolia Blvd. Mark, a long-time friend and supporter of my food endeavors, was the insurance agent for Heather who owned Quenelle, the Ice Cream and Pie Shop where Random Acts of Breadness is now. It was Mark who made that phone call to me in February 2021: Mark - "You know that bakery idea you have?" Me - "Yeah?" Mark - "Come on over and take a look at this place. The owner is closing and is looking for someone to take over the lease." Me - "Where is it?" Mark - "2214 West Magnolia Blvd." Me - "That's really close. I'll be right over!" And the rest is history...

Meet the jamazing Laura Ann in person, Sunday August 6th, from 2-4 p.m.

For the first time since we started carrying Laura Ann's artisan jams, you have the opportunity to meet the jam lady herself this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.! Laura Ann will be glad to discuss all of her flavors, how she got into making jams, how one of her jams ended up in question on Jeopardy, and how a drummer in a rock band in Chicago ended up in LA making top-rated boutique jams!

This week at the bakery: Fresh and Frozen...

Many of our customers buy more than one loaf of bread so they can freeze it for later use (or give it as a gift in the middle of the week). If you plan on freezing your bread, let us know so we can give you bread that's already frozen and double bagged. Many of the frozen loaves are already sliced, making it easy for you to take only the slices you want from the frozen loaf and letting them thaw in another sealed bag on your counter for about 30 minutes. We have fresh and frozen Country Loaves and Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan Loaves.

Here's 2-YA!

Random Acts of Breadness is located at 2214 West Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank (2-1/2 blocks east of Buena Vista on the south side of the street). Come to the bakery and sample our artisan wares, or order on line for bakery pickup, or have Breadness delivered or shipped to your door. You may also order by phone at 818-562-7303 and pay when you come pick it up. We're open Friday & Saturday 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Reminder: If you (or someone you wish to gift) live within 120 miles of Los Angeles, we can ship on Thursday (via UPS Ground) and in most cases your Breadness Box will arrive on Friday (Saturday at the latest). Place your order before Thursday at noon here

Enjoy a "slice of life" from Random Acts of Breadness!
