These 'biologics' block
specific molecular mediators..Mediators that play a prominent role in
inflammation.Vastly improving the lives of people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).The stimulus for joint inflammation can come from many sources.
We'll get to the underlying causes of
osteoarthritis (OA) in the coming weeks..
But
inflammation is the pathway to
pain and disability. Joint problems are all about inflammation. In
OA,
inflammation sits on top of the ‘wear and tear.’
Just like in
RA, where
inflammation is also key...
So, is the message to take biologics in OA?
Well, not really. For a number of good reasons.
BUT in
OA it is worth thinking about:
- Better understanding => better treatment 🤔
- Importance of tackling the underlying cause (coming up)
- How we can roadblock our own inflammatory pathway.
