Yiene is summoned to Sky after her mother’s death, where she must fight for her life in a vicious power struggle for an inheritance she never knew existed, while living alongside the enigmatic gods held prisoner in the palace.

N.K. Jemisin is one of my favourite storytellers, and in her first published novel she crafts one of the most unique and captivating fantasy worlds I’ve encountered. 

It’s a bit of a slow burn, and I’ve heard some folks take a while to get into her writing style, but it’s absolutely worth it.
