Changes coming to NIH Grants Forms |
Later this fall, NIH will post version FORMS-I of the grant application forms and training data table format pages to support the changes coming to NIH application and peer review for due dates on or after Jan 25, 2025. The posting effort will begin in late Oct and continue through Nov.
Although you can’t complete your application forms until the updated form packages are posted to active opportunities and final training data table format pages are posted in the Forms Directory, you can certainly get started preparing your application attachments and planning for training table data collection. You can finalize your drafts when the forms, format pages, and instructions are made available.

Webinar: R01, R21, and R03 NIH Funding Opportunities: Pros and Cons. The R01, R21 and R03 are the three most common NIH Research Project Grants (RPGs). The R01 is considered the “gold standard” of NIH grants. The small R03 and exploratory/developmental R21 grants should not be considered as “mini-R01s” but rather serve a specific purpose for investigators. Our presenter has had multiple R01 and R21 grants and extensive experience reviewing these types of grant applications and will provide:
— A basic overview of the R01, R21 and R03 funding opportunities, including the difference between Parent Announcements (investigator-initiated) and Program Announcements / Request for Applications (PAs/RFAs). — Important differences between the R01, R21 and R03 funding opportunities. — Whether the R01, R21 or R03 is the right funding opportunity for your project.
