The loss of a child before birth can be a traumatic experience and often women and families are left to grieve the loss of their unborn babies alone and without any form of memorial.
This month, ground was broken on the project to establish this special place for the little ones. The memorial of the unborn will provide mothers and families who have lost babies to miscarriage, abortion or stillbirth, a place for prayer, peace and contemplation. The land has also been designated for the burial of human remains and several unborn children are already buried at the site.
The memorial will include:
- A hand carved life sized wooden statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe
- The stone statue from the JPII Centre's old memorial
- A lovely planted area with views to Mt Grey and the Southern Alps
- A place for prayer, burial, memorial, and respect for babies lost to abortion, miscarriage and stillbirth.
Work on the initial phase should be completed by the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in December with the addition of the statue in January or February.
We need your help to finish this work of love for the little ones!Currently we have raised $10,000 but we still need to raise $5000 more to complete the project with pathways and beautiful trees.
