17 innovative Good Practice Stories awarded at the Green Destinations Story Awards 2022
Green Destinations is proud to announce that all destinations of the 2021 Top 100 list have been competing to see their Good Practice Stories go through to the final Awards event at ITB Berlin. All approaches described in these 100 stories have been considered for one of the categories of the Green Destinations Story Awards. Important selection criteria were: level of innovation, how effective the stories are to solve real problems in tourism sustainability, and to what extent they can be applied elsewhere.
Visit Portugal continued to show its commitment to sustainable tourism development by joining Green Destinations for this celebration of innovation and inspiration for a better tourism industry and hosting the ceremony that took place on the 11th of March at 1pm CET.
We proudly announce the winner of the two special categories this year:
ITB Earth Award
The ITB Earth Award winner was  unveiled on Friday. The ITB Earth Award recognises global leadership in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation. The winner of the award is selected by ITB Berlin every year amongst a collection of smart projects for more sustainable tourism. The 2022 ITB Earth Award is Azores, Portugal.
People's Choice Award
The People’s Choice Award allows the general public to support their favourite destination and Good Practice Story. The 2022 People Choice Award campaign ran from the 4th of January to the 9th of February 2022. The destination that collected the most votes and received this prestigious award is​ Bison Land, Romania.
